True Start Earth is too small
The idea behind it is really awesome but the map is really small and all of the continents look deformed. I think there should be a new, larger map which looks more like Earth.

Have you checked the Workshop? I'm pretty sure somebody made a huge true start map.

I'd assume there is one, seeing as there were a few in civ 5, but I don't think you can play mod maps in multiplayer.

Yeh the basic map is a joke, looks horrible as well, esp along the northern coast.. dunno what earth their artist though he was drawing/painting but it certainly isn't one I'm familar with.

The giant earth on mods is pretty decent.

The true start earth map is pretty flawed in my experiance for a number of reasons.
Size is certainly one as the OP said.

The game removes pretty much all of the map customization options.
There seems to be absolutly no variation or randomness in resource placement. In 6 or 8 games as austrailia everything was exactly the same.

The game is horrible at picking random opponents, one time as poland i had 2 other civs literally 4 tiles from my starting city. You pretty much have to manually pick everybody for a somewhat ballanced game and even then you only have 3 civs for the entire western hemisphere.
Brazil in particular has a massive advantage, and if you play as aztecs it is hilariously easy to blockade washington and farm workers off them for the first few eras.

Austrailia in particular is really gimp, having no mountains, no stone, all of 1 or 2 wheat, and very few luxuries. Not to mention that most of the place is sand so you might as well give up if you don't get petra in a well placed city. Also, no city states visible without sailing.

The Not another map pack version seem to be a lot better, but you still have the problem of extreamly uneven civ density. I really hope we get some native american / south american civs soon.

Yeh it says somewhere that the earth map is supposed to place resources in their "true to life locations" but given the broken way resources are now placed, since spring patch.. you could get all the worlds iron, oil and coal on australia as not.

RIP if you are playing as Japan on that map... you pretty much can't do anything until you can embark

Yea we've tried numerous things like handpicking civs to make them as exactly balanced in terms of starting land, the map just doesn't work. There's so many choke points on land and with some countries not being big enough to really play (United States, Japan) and coastal water being one tile means you need to get all the way to cartography before you can do much exploring (you don't realize how many of the games city states are coastal until you play True Earth). By turn 80 you can't move hardly anywhere without it. Realistically the map needs to be bigger. And the resources are ridiciuslously unbalanced; think one time we saw United States have 6 out of like 15 aluminum or coal on the entire map.

That map is where it came to me that you should be able to build canals in the game.

Played a giant one from the workshop in LAN multiplayer yesterday, and it was WAY too big. Earth map has issues anyway. Today did the built in one on Civ V and I got placed in Europe while my teammates were on their own in the Americas. They got to build up with impunity whereas as soon as I went to war I was hit from all sides. Dammit Earth!
