why is the 'true earth' map so small
I don't know how many of you know how large london is, but if you play england, london literally takes literally 80% of the british isles, hell I even had a hex expand to france.
(speaking of which, archers can shoot from their continent to mine because that makes sense right?)

I can't fit a second city just in the british isle without it being suboptimal, ireland is too small for a full city, denmark seems non existant, literally 2 hexes. Scandinavia is not only tiny but also hardly inhabitable. And those are one of the strongest european countries.

Iceland, unless its 1 hex i don't think i even saw it. Europe in general basically is 1 city per civ, anything more just lacks space. Indonesia and the philipino islands are too small to even let the city states there develop properly. And they get trashed by barbarian fleets in the early game.

China needs about 5 cities spanning across asia and africa to even be considered large as it is in real life.

Spain can only hold 1 city (including portugal i might add). France can hold maybe 2 but I think that starts invading german territory. And greece was just all over the place.

The only decent places are north and south america, and the coastal areas of africa and india. And even then, a lot of the american places are just tundras (canada) and deserts (texas).

Just enlarge the map, it does not mean you need to fit every civ to their historical places, no. But i would like The british isles fit more than 1 city for a start.

There's mods out there that have a bigger earth map. However be warned even on the best PC's the largest size will slow down the turns. In the (yet)not another map pack mod there's a map called play Europe again. It's a large map that goes from Madrid to the Dead Sea and as far south as northern tip of Africa.

modders should not be the ones that patch the game for the devs

It's not patching the game. It's just adding more maps created by the community

increasing the scale of a what is suppose to be 'true earth' is not a map created by the community. What we currently have is a bunch of islands that can't support 2 cities

Seriously, check out the (yet not another map pack) mod. It makes the game 100% more enjoyable. Just go into the steam workshop and download it from there. You won't regret it.

I agree with this disscussion, but there is mods for that. I believe they should add a larger form of the earth just so you don't have to go through the proccess of getting the mod and don't get me wrong mods are easy too install, but if you're playing multiplayer and a friend doesn't have the mod installed or doesn't have the feature that allows you to auto download mods on it's a pain. Sincerly,

Well, if you look at a world map Europe is actually quite tiny compared to the other continents, and as it stands most islands are bigger than they would be if accurateld scaled to a real earth. So there are three things that can be done.

1) Distort the proportions even further, to give more land area

2) Scale up the whole map (But this is sure to cause some lag/performance issues)

3) Localize your map to show just europe, or just the old world.

Given that there are only 3 civs in the whole western hemisphere, 3) wouldn't be a bad idea.

Part of the problem, is that there is a LOT of OCEAN, particularly in the Pacific, tieing up a lot of the possible tiles on the map, if you keep the proportions active.

We will continue to have this problem until Firaxis finds a way to have different scales on the map for city development versus country development. For instance, something like Distant Worlds or Stellaris, where you can magnify things a lot to get to the building/developement scale.

Europe countries are too small and too close. So you had better not to chose more than 2 Europe civilizations in the ture earth map in one game.
