I did read what I was buying. It said I'd get new civs, leaders, maps and scenarios - four post launch DLC packs at a discount. I compared this to Civ 5's initial DLC which was similar to gauge my expectations.
I was expecting something like four scenarios, and eight new civs, and a couple of map options split over four packs that are essential double the content and price of those packs Civ 5 offered - and something like a 75% discount over buying separately.
Thus far what has been delivered has been miles below expectation - we're three of four DLCs packs in and only have two new civs and three scenarios (two of which are half-cooked). To top it off, unless the final DLC is really quite substantial it's either going to be woefully over-priced, or I won't be seeing the discount I was promised when I bought the digital deluxe edition.
I'm not sure how you went from V's '1 civ per pack' to 'surely VI will have 8 civs in 4 packs'. That's called unrealistic expectations. Civ V didn't even have 8 standalone civ packs in all its lifetime...
At minimum this Deluxe edition would get you not much; few civs, scenarios and maps. Which is what the description says and seemingly what we're getting since the DLC model is very much the same as that of V. It's clearly a bad deal unless you absolutely love new civs, scenarios and maps. Yet for some insane reason a lot of people bought this season pass and don't like those 3 things.
Why the ♥♥♥♥ did you get it then? There is no scam going on here. Just a company giving a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ deal, and a bunch of folks buying it and expecting the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ world. Can't blame the company here, really. Gamers show time and time again they buy anything, even if it's wrapped in vague promises and hot air.
Here we have two single civ+scenario, one DLC with natural wonders and CS and a scenario, and we've been told the next DLC will have two civs.
Looks pretty comparable to me.
