If you hit play there should be a Steam popup asking if you wish to start the normal client or the DX12 client. If there is no such option, it may be because your computer can not actually support DX12.

I'm talking out my bum on that last sentence, if the popup doesn't appear I don't know why.

And I presume you've upgraded to Windows 10 right? I vaguely recall DX12 being Win 10 only... If it's not either of those, then I'm outta ideas. xD

I have a 1060 and windows 10 too, and yesterday the game I'm playing started crashing (by turn 246) and I noticed the error popup said something about DX11. later today I'll check it out, but I'm pretty sure I used to play with DX12.

If you start Civ VI directly from its shortcut it won't ask you which one you want, but I believe that if you enter Steam, then go to your games page and run Civ VI from there, I think it asks if you want DX11 or DX12.

Start the game from your Steam library and not your the desktop icon. Should then see the option of starting in DX12

Start Civ 6 from the Steam Library screen not a shortcut. That may make a difference, that how I always do it and I see the DX 11 versus DX 12 box every time. Your Windows 10 has to be version 1067 or higher which it should be if it has been updating (which is almost imossible to stop from happening)
