I'm wondering in my current game if a certain ai has built a second space port. Because I'm raiding the original one. Can't pillage, disapointed. Can't spy, bummed. have took take te city apparently.

You NEED 3 Space Ports so you can build the last 3 Projects at the SAME time (one at each Space Port). The first two Projects have to be completed one at a time, before the last 3 Projects open up to build, if you have the right Techs of course.

Otherwise, it will take a VERY LONG time to build all of those Projects, and the game will probably end before then, either by someone else achieving a Victory or by the end of game time (usually 500 Turns).

added: OK so it is possible with only one Space Port, but with three you make it happen a lot sooner.

On the higher difficulties maybe. I won with Symmeria just having one space port on king difficulty. Culture victory by america was very close , but i was first

Only one port is needed I think.
You just need to get all 3 great people related to space victory. Usually I only pursue
science victory and it can be achieved around 350 turn(in my case anyway),
in immortal and huge map.

I tried to build second pad sometime but build cost of pad itself is so ridiculously expansive
so I never even got a chance to build second one, because all five parts are can be done
in capital alone while researching all the necessary tech.

(+you may need to save up religious point or lots of money in order to get all three person,
because two of them have close-recruitment timing so you need to boost gauge.
In my case, I usually completely abandon religious point until that moment and spent it
all-in there)

If you manage to get both people who increase space race prodution by 100% and Carl Sagan for flat production, you can get through all the space race parts in 1-2 turns each. On standard, Sagan provides 2010(?) hammers to a space race project, and the doubled production stacked means it is worth over 8000 hammers in a single turn.

Campuses fully loaded also helps with faster earning the Scientist part.

couple scientists also help as well as Engineer.

Needed? No. Desirable? Yes. 3 is best. It depends on:
  • Your difficulty level. With lower levels you have more time.
  • How close to any sort of victory other civs are. If they're close, more than one is good.
  • How evenly balanced the production is in your potential spaceport cities. If you have one runaway production city, more spaceports won't help. If they're fairly even, 3 is best.
  • How patient you are!
And do put spies at each spaceport for counter-espionage.
