How do you stop a cultural victory

I thought destroying Rome and thus taking away it's wonders will end the threat of a cultural victory. At last it seems I am destine to fail the Aztecs gods and the Roman gods will win, that sucks. So how do I stop it, it has been declare one more AI leader has to be beaten in the cultural race. Again that sucks.

The more you buff your own culture, the harder it is for them to achieve victory. You'll gain more Domestic tourists and they'll gain less foreign tourists and you'll join the cultural race.

Or you could just eliminate them completely.

If the game is at the stage where a cultural victory is victorious, then the game is supposed to end. This must of been around where? Turn 400 of a standard game? Much like the science victory.

Essentially you where outplayed, or too slow with a domination/religious victory.

However...
War sooner and take more than the capital. Works of art, wonders are in multiple cities.
Destroy cultural city states, if you want your envoys elsewhere.
Do not accept open borders.
Destroy their trade routes.
Have a different government.
Steal works of art.
If only 1 civ is focusing on culture, you might have to a little aswell, too extend the win condition. Or just be more agressive sooner and take their culture for yourself instead.

Remember, this is a game. I love to forget and play CIV as a sim/city/civ builder/manager however you have to remember there are win conditions and a real competitive game here. Pick a win condition and play to win.

turn off cultural victory

Like Root said you waited to late. Basically you just have to murder them. Take all their cities but have a forward force looting all their districts in the meantime. But them starting to blaze out in front of you in the first place is the time to be doing this. Essentially in just about any game of Civ VI you play you should be coasting to victory by about turn 150-200.

Doesn't work due to people who are chasing a cultural victory usually having a big surplus of great writers, musicians and artists just standing around doing ♥♥♥♥ in the late game.

Yep did try that also and it did not do anything.
