Well from what i know, this will depend on the success of Star Trail.

If all goes well (and I guess that they have chances) tey will be getting the follow up contract.

I didn't even expect Star Trail tbh. Didn't think BoD did too well.
It'd be nice to have all three though.

Where did this pop up from! I loved Shadows Over Riva great game and the sound track one of the best ever https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgJ_r9hyFK0&list=RDbgJ_r9hyFK0#t=649

Is the first remake worth picking up?

As Hindro said, it all depends on how well Star Trail is received. We are rather confident that we made a good one with Star Trail, certainly not AAA, but that was never our intention. Now, you decide whether it is any good. If you do so, I'm sure we'll be able to do Riva as well. So just vote with your wallets, we'll hear you :).

I really hope this will be a success! We need the third installment :). I only recently realized that you are only a two-person developer team, now I have even more respect for you work! Also, I always wanted to ask, if similar games would be an option sometimes in the future? Tbh I secretly always hoped for a Remaster version of Quelle von Naroth - I think it could do well with a similar treatment.

I hope this does well too. Love the older TDE/DSA rules. Back before they started calling it Aventuria instead of Arkania over here. Horrible new name. I'd also like to see any engine or feature updates/upgrades trickle down to the previous games.

I've never heard of Quelle von Naroth, but it looks pretty fun. Reminds me of the Gold Box games. I'd definitely play it if they remake it in English.

This is pretty obscure, and I don't know who has the rights to it (I hope it's not EA since it's an early Origin game), but I would love to see a remake of Knights of Legend. Even though they only ever made the first part of it and it was supposed to be expanded with add-ons.

I assume there's no way to transfer the party from the endgame of the remake of Star Trail to the start of the DOS version of Shadows over Riva?

Well, I suppose one could try to use a character editor to get the Shadows over Riva DOS starting party to match the stats of the endgame Star Trail remake or something... (until the Shadows over Riva remake arrives! :) )

@Cringer85: Thanks, I'm happy you enjoy our remake :). Specializing in remakes is an interesting idea, the problem with remakes is that for one it is at times quite hard to identify the holder of rights for a specific title at present. Another problem is that remakes have to live up to the original AND appeal to a new audience in order to be profitable (sorry to bring that up, but we still need to make games in order to get something to eat here ;)). With the Northland Trilogy the appeal is at least possible, with enough people having heard of it or played it "back in the day" to be attractive. I honestly never heard of "Quelle von Naroth", and especially with titles that were - sorry to say - small to begin with, a remake is very unlikely, because it would be more profitable to just make a game from scratch, because you'd cut out the original licence holder who also wants to earn something ;).

@robomagon: Almost the same for you :). Remakes always have the original licence holder dictating what may and may not happen with their property. In our case, Attic was very cooperative and we had almost free hand in realizing our remake vision. Hard to say what EA might want for that ;).

@Yistaan: The savegames of ST are cleartext readable and of the "speaking" kind, so with only the slightest understanding of computers you can read (and edit ;)) any savegame. Writing a converter for Riva Original would also be possible, the savegame format is documented somewhere on the net. But so far, nothing premade exists :).

I thought I was the only person on earth that remembered Knights of Legend. Glad to see there's another one of us. I played that game quite a bit back in the day, and despite me looking I haven't found anything else since quite like it. (It must not have done very well.)

I have played the Schicksalsklinge and Sternenschweif for hours as a child but never got far in them as they were too complex for a child. In Schatten über Riva I liked the way it felt more like later also the Might & Magic games of the third generation (6-8) from the way of movement, but also never got far. So the important question I'd have first is if the time limits are removed in the remakes. But I will definitely buy this game on a sale, as I have not played the first remake yet, and my financial situation not anymore allows me full-price buys currently.

If everyone would wait for a sale of 50 or 75 percent off, how many sales would you need approximately for Shadows over Riva to be made?

There still is a time limit in the first game, but i guess when you were a kid you didn't have the internet and youtube for help when you were stuck, did you? And the game helps you a bit to find your way with quest markers (not too many). And you can save anytime, not just in temples, without losing experience points!

Star Trail has a small time limit in Lowangen (if you lost the precious item Elsurion asked you to find), but you should be able to manage that - and there's an auto save feature, so you can try again.

@Protoss, I can't throw around such numbers, it would be too easy to deduct our business internals from them. But if you take Reviews as a measurement, if we every reach 500 reviews, I'm fairly certain Riva will get made ;).

So what you're saying is... we just need to write more reviews!
Chris Firefox Aug 16, 2017 @ 11:33pm
What I'm *implying* is that the more reviews we have, the more people bought the game, and that the relation between written reviews and actual copies in circulation is rather constant ;)

IDK, speaking of VRAM: min 2GB / recommended 4 GB seem too much for a TBS game. A Unity thingy perhaps?
Will buy the Austrian TBS(!) (Deluxe) nevertheless!

Edit:
PS. (a bit of?) optimization might better the sales... You'll reach to laptot users, probably a majority nowadays. (I have a ~5 years old gaming rig myself; still no reason to upgrade(was topnotch at its time))
