I played Redux for the Anniversary edition, and it wasn't bad. I'm currently going through Aeon edition for TLC, and I've been having a lot more fun. Both these mods are made by the same guy. They both do the same things, but TLC has a lot more. I guess that version is more easily modded.
After playing both, the two things Anniversary edition has is a graphics update and controller support. TLC has been better in pretty much every other way. It only took me ~10 minutes to get used to the keyboard interface.
I been playing Aeon edition. Is it just me or is it very challenging? I was struggling hard until a hobb dropped a weapon that did way more damage than anything I could get before the 14x multiplier demon door. Even then the games still been hard but it's more managable
If you need some extra help, exploring the Guild can get you some good items. There's an Ages of Might/Skill/Will potion you can pick up. I sold those for a few thousand each to get some starting seed money. That let me buy some decent weapons in Bowerstone. Getting experience in this game is easy enough as is.
I definitely say stick with it!
