Fable Anniversary - Heroic Mode Blog
With Fable Anniversary coming to Steam in September, we’ve spent a lot of time thinking about ways we can create a challenging, new experience for even the most dedicated Fable veteran to enjoy.

It needed to be something that existing fans of Fable would appreciate but hadn’t yet seen in Fable: The Lost Chapters. After numerous discussions, we settled on the idea of introducing a difficulty setting to the game, aptly titled: Heroic Mode. Today we wanted to take some time to run through the changes you can expect in this new difficulty setting when the game launches on Steam this September!

The first and perhaps most obvious change was, of course, to make enemies hit harder. How hard they hit will vary, but you’re looking at double-damage Wraiths, TRIPLE damage Balvarines and Red Wasps dealing out 500% extra damage! And it’s not just creatures that hit harder – Bandits have been on a shopping (or, more likely raiding) spree and have replaced their Iron weapons with Obsidian, and those that used to have Obsidian now use Master weapons!

Not only will your enemies be hitting harder than ever; more powerful opponents will be spawning much earlier in the game. Expect to be battling Nymphs and Trolls by the time you enter Greatwood! And with all those tricky enemies to overcome, don’t expect to level up any quicker as we’ve reduced experience gain from all enemies by 40%.

When you’re taking more damage, you’ll want to use more health potions, right? Perhaps not, as stock of health and mana potions in all shops has been massively reduced. In fact, some shops have even lost the ability to replenish their stocks once they’re sold. Even if you do manage to find a shop selling potions, then you’ll find they’re more expensive to buy and when used will be much less effective!

Who’s worried about more expensive potions when you can make your fortune selling to Traders, right? Not quite. In these trying times, traders are tightening their belts and will offer you 50% less on any item you try to sell them.

And the changes don’t stop there – for those hoping for an easy time with their Shield or Enflame spells, we’ve updated both to require more experience to upgrade and, even then, they’ll be less effective.

But surely with all those changes, it’s not the end of the world? If and when you die, you’ll still have your trusty resurrection phials to fall back on, won’t you? Unfortunately not – we’ve removed them entirely.

As you can see, Heroic mode is really shaping up to be a challenge - but this isn't the end! After the game launches we'll be listening to what the community have to say, and making tweaks based on your feedback. We can't wait to see videos, screenshots and stories of people's first successful (and perhaps, unsuccessful) attempts at completing this challenge to grab the Steam achievement!

Fable Anniversary launches on Steam on 12th September – head over to the store page now to pre-order with a 20% discount AND the awesome Scythe bonus content pack for free!

I mean. Having such a great challenge is always appreciated to refresh the experience. But don´t you thin it should be somehow more rewarding advancing through such a challenge?

A new difficulty is fun to have I guess. Challenge has never really been a reason to play this game, but this mode might change that.

What would have made this Heroic Mode really awesome is additional weapons/armor only obtainable within this mode. The ultimate challenge deserves premium equipment, right?

I can't wait!

Is there a steam achievment list somewhere?

This is something Fable needed from the beginning. It's something the modding community for the first game has constantly been working towards too. I don't think you really need material incentives to make it attractive. It should be hard enough that bragging rights are the incentive.

ya i mean i understand why they would do this but there should be a real reason for doing it other then a more challingeing game and by the looks of it, it seems that your going to die alot

so i +1 this and i think diffrint skills or spells for this mode

Great idea!! This is awesome to hear, wanted to leave some feedback to consider for the stores that sell items. Rather than have them run out of items which can inhibit a players ability to endlessly play it may better to make it so the price of objects with each purchases rises instead? This way players can keep playing fable and having as much fun as they want, of course items should not reach impossibly high costs or the end result would be the same as them disappearing.

For an incentive maybe a wearable item that looks very elite, like a white beret with the fable seal of the kingdom on it? Very elegant.

Looking forward to the game, good luck!

As the people before me said , challenge mode fable is one of the best thing to happen ,but at least make it a bit rewarding for example (just an example now its too late for something like that) lets say you kill the wasp queen and along with her head you get a treasure chest containing a weapon (not OP but lets say )+5 or +10 dmg upgrade from the rank A+ melee test in the guild , thats what i think. :berserker:
