Is this like Fate the video game?
Hello,

I was wondering is this like the game "Fate?" Specifically "Fate the Cursed King" is the most recent release in the series... I really want a middle age type RPG game where you level up and equip your person..

THANKS

Actually you can argue that Fable is miles better than Fate. The story line certainly is light-years ahead of Fate. The leveling system is very different for Fable and gives you a lot of options as far as what type of character you want to be. The only big drawback is there is no choice in character selection; only one male character to play (no female options at all). There is plenty of cool equipment to equip him with though.

Alright sweet. Would you recommend this for a veteran of Fate?... given that there is no new fate planned to be released

I do play both games and like them both. Fable was actually my very first RPG followed by The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. Fable is less of a casual game than Fate, but it does have tons more depth. Fable Anniversary also has a very good interface for a windows x-box360 controller, something that is lacking in Fable: The Lost Chapters (Fable Anniversary is a remake of Fable TLC). If you are looking for a good RPG that plays like Divinity or Dragon Age then I recomend Fable.

Any how much magic oriented is this game? I liked how in Fate you didnt have to use magic at all and it was a small side thing... is this one of those 99% magic games?

In Fable you have a choice of 3 areas where you can raise your stats; will (magic), strength (useful in melee combat), or skill (useful for archery and sneaking). Magic is an important part of the game and some spells come in very handy when it comes to doing certain quests or fulfilling a boast, but I suppose it is possible to play while emphasizing the other two areas and ignoring magic.

Longtime veteran of both series myself here, wanted to throw in my two cents here. The two games have very little in common besides the fact that they're action-oriented RPGs. But this isn't a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination.

With regards to magic specifically, with Fable you do have to learn the lightning spell in the tutorial, but you never have to use it outside of that if you don't want to. Furthermore, just because you use magic, you don't have to use it exclusively. I often play a sort of spellsword character, wielding magic and melee in harmony.

In terms of general gameplay, there's a lot that's different between the two games. FATE has an isometric view and Diablo-esque gameplay wherein one clicks on enemies to attack, clicks on NPCs to interact, and clicks on loot to pick it up.

Fable's gameplay, though still simple, is a bit more in-depth than that. The camera follows the player character from behind when moving, and is adjustable otherwise. You press Q to sheathe or unsheathe your melee weapon, E to do the same thing with any bow or crossbow you may have equipped(another difference between Fable and FATE here is that you can equip both melee and ranged weapons).

For melee combat you left click, and your weapon swings. Keep left clicking and you'll keep swinging, regardless of enemy presence. You hold down your middle mouse button to block(not really necessary outside of heroic difficulty, though fun nonetheless), and if your weapon starts to glow purple, you can right click to do a flourish attack that will ignore any opponent's block and knock most foes to the ground.

For ranged combat, holding down the left mouse button will nock and draw an arrow, and releasing will loose it. Pressing the right mouse button will switch to a zoomed in view with a reticle that allows you to aim your bow more precisely.

For magic, you hold shift and left or right click to cast a spell, and while holding shift you can use your mouse wheel to switch between available spells in your arsenal.

If this sounds like fun, trust me, it is. I've been playing Fable since 2009 when I got TLC for $20, and I have yet to grow tired of it, and then I had already been playing FATE for a few years.

I actually found the game: Torchlight 2... and it looks almost identical to Fate which is sorrta what I want!

Yeah, Torchlight is pretty similar to FATE. If I remember correctly, it was a joint effort between devs of multiple studios, including those who worked on FATE. Still, if you find yourself wanting something a little different, I highly recommend Fable.
