Fixing Fable Anniversary Startup Issues on Windows 11

Having trouble getting Fable Anniversary to run on your Windows 11 PC? This fixed it for me.

Step 1: Install required DirectX versions.
Step 2: Install Visual C++ runtimes.
Step 3: Install necessary DLL files in the game's folder.

Tutorial for Step 3:

• Extract all contents from the downloaded .rar file from Step 3.
  
• Copy the files to the root folder where the game's .exe file is located (putting them elsewhere won't work).

Where to Place the DLL Files:

1. Open File Explorer.
   
2. Navigate to your Steam folder.
   
3. Locate the Fable Anniversary folder (e.g., steamapps\common\Fable Anniversary).
   
4. Go into the Binaries folder.
   
5. Finally, open the Win32 folder where the Fable Anniversary.exe is located.

The complete path might look like this for some users: C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Fable Anniversary\Binaries\Win32

Final Step: Launch the game.

I neither use compatibility settings nor administrator privileges.

Is that what you have to do to play the game on Win11?
Then basically it’s not fit for purpose and shouldn’t be sold without a warning that it doesn’t work on Win 11 and only Win 10.

That’s the problem with games sold as licenses today. If you had a physical copy it would be different. But since you own nothing they don’t bother, but still rake in the cash….

I mean this is 10 YEARS old yet still sold full ridiculous price, minus the sale. £26.99

Then you look at the specs.

Steam no longer supports Win 7 Legally, this *shouldn’t* be listed on Steam and that’s a fact. It has to say “it supports Win 10”, so it doesn’t.

OS *: Windows 7/8 64bit
Processor: Intel Core2 Quad 2.33GHz
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 260

Starting January 1st, 2024, the Steam Client will only support Windows 10 and later versions.

As I said, they seem to have rules for themselves and rules for us.

I’m glad I played and finished this on the original Xbox
