Weapon type differences?

so I played this game way back when it came out and I was just a dumb child and now i am coming back and I am thinking "whats the difference between a longsword, a katana and a mace?"
does mace do more damage to some enemies and the sword not and why is the katana just better than any other 1h weapon?

nothing really except damage stats and obviously appearance. Katanas usually do more damage than longswords but maces cannot stab a enemies that are knocked down on the floor, like swords can...im not sure if maces are stronger and can knock enemies back more...some might swing a bit faster than others...but mostly its whatever u prefer
