This game is mostly linear with open world aspects. Sure, you can go back to places you've already been whenever you want or do other quests during the main story, but to actually visit new places you're probably going to need to do the main quest. Once you've finished the game you can continue playing and at that point it's arguably more open world. This isn't like an Elder Scrolls game where you can visit every town from the start.

Not that there's anything wrong with this though. Fable: The Lost Chapters specifically is one of my favorite games I've ever played.

i remeber reading somewhere years ago before it was originaly released they removed the "open world" aspect right before it was released. but dont quote me on it. it was over a decade ago.
That seems possible. They planned on making a much bigger game but it never happened.

It's not your traditional open world like say Skyrim or something. There are set paths but you are free to go back to the different place at any point IIRC.

The open world is like in "The Incredible Adventures Of Van Helsing", if you played that^^
It's more like "open hub"

It is open level, but not open world until the end after you've unlocked all areas. You should read up on Project Ego and get mad about everything that didn't make it into this game.

Yeah, it's pseudo-open. The world is made up of several instanced minimaps. Most are locked until you complete parts of the main quest, and there are some things in game that if you miss doing it as you progress through the main story, you can't go back and do it.

Once you unlock areas you can travel to them, but after a bit of exploration the urge to do so isn't really there (aside from visiting the towns, which are really pretty and can be easily RP'd in), unless you want to do some side quests or events.

Also, once you become aware of it, most of the maps are one-directional. There are motives to taking side paths, but it's pretty much go from (w, x) to (y, z) on the given path.

Don't let this sway you, though. If you haven't played Fable (1), then you should definitely pick this (or the original: Lost Chapters) up. It's an awesome game. And this is coming from someone that *hates* linear games. It's barely noticable behind the character customization, combat, beauty, and story.
that and the main antagonist is such a loveable character in all he's evilness :D

Open world would imply there is no loading from area to area, which there is.
So skyrim isn't a open world?

No, Skyrim is open world (it isn't an RPG, but it is open world). Borderlands 2, however, is not open world...altho many people would like to claim that it is.

This game isn't open world either.
If you get a loading screen when going from area A to area B then that means it's semi-open world, not open world.
Open world would mean that there's no loading screens at all. The game might load when you enter a city in Skyrim, but you won't see a loading screen.
Sure, the dungeons get a little screen but dungeons and the world are two totally different things.

If FABLE and Borderlands are open world then you might aswell claim that Super Mario: Bros is a 2D open world game. It just has a little loading screen between stages but other than that you're free to roam the side-scrolling world, right ? Same logic applies here.

I think this is your personal definition of open world. Most people call a world open, if they can move around freely (not level-structure, where you can't go back to places you visited before).
Witcher 2 was semi-open world for example. You could travel around in the hub you were in, but couldn't go back to areas you visited before (each chapter had a hub, if I remeber right), whereas in Fable or Borderlands, you can travel freely across areas you already visited and even visit and explore new ones.

No. The game consists of small, linear zones connected to eachother by loading zones, which have to be unlocked by progressing through the story.

You guys are debating the wrong thing. His main concern is how much in the world he can do, besides side quests, with main quest completed.

It's open world as in you can go anywhere in the world, they are just broken up between maps with loading zones in between.

someone that got my question^^ but anyways thanks for all the replys :)

My concern is that if i beat the game and there is nothing left to do that i will never touch this game again. Thats why i don't buy games that offer not enough freedom and tasks to do.

Skyrim was sth i really loved played 300 hours + but i guess i cant compare it with Fable.

You're right, you can't really do much after completing the game...you can try to buy all the houses and stuff, but quest-wise there isn't really much to do :/

This game will not be open world. Once you finish the quest-line you can do all the things you missed during the main part of the game. Other than that just restart and go a different path.
Not be open world?.. pretty sure the game is open world.

It's not open world though. You get different pieces of linear path, with some side paths that you don't really need to visit. Also you'll be revisiting areas because of quests/hubs etc.

But you can't just go whatever direction you please, you are in a small map which has 2-4 exits into other small maps.
