What's so great about Fable 2?
Title says it all. I have bought all 4 fables literally (including the original and TLC separately). I guess you could say I bought all 5 as I have just bought this game as well. What the hell was good about Fable 2? It was nothing like Fable or F:TLC. They got rid of everything that I loved (The combat system, the camera angle, magic spells sucked, the story lacked the original feel completely, the music, etc...). If they came out with an aniversery for Fable 2, I surely will not buy it. These are just my opinion. Now I'm not looking for a fight, just a nice convo as to why people like Fable 2 over Fable/F:TLC.

PS: I don't consider ""Fable" Journey" a Fable game.

Honestly, I don't know. But I love Fable II. I'd prefer the Fable I weapons, the Fable I magic and the Fable I setting. But still Fable II gives more to me. The world is bigger, I feel more free to do whatever I like to do. Trading and housekeeping seems more interesing and important.
I still can remember distinctive Fable I quests and yet questing in Fable II was satisfying. I really enjoyed the world. I disliked the tower thing but still i cant say there is anything that stopped me from having fun during the time I took to complete the game. I can't put my finger on it, but I really loved playing this game.

Fable I was nice but the world was really small and felt that way. Every level was limited by walls and left only one or two ways to complete it. It was fun and the weaponry was much more interesting as anything that Fable II delivered. But still, Fable II was the better game in my opinion. More freedome, more world to explore and more gametime to enjoy. Still, I'd prefer the Fable I setting over the Fable II or Fable III setting any time.

And Fable: The Journey was just a reminder how bad kinect works. It always insisted the pot plant about 1.5 meters from my left was my left arm. Traveling by coach was quite anoying. And as far as I remember that was about 90% of the games content.

agreed wholeheartedly, fable one was amazing in comparison to fable 2, they departed so hard from the established fable universe, The heroes guild the center of fable 1 is destroyed in fable 2, that means we don't get to fight them, we don't get to help them, we don't get to be in the heroes guild, they're just gone, the arena is terrible in fable 2, departed way too hard from fable 1, the whole game just tries to go too far from the amazing source material, They even destroyed oakvale! So let me get this straight, you needed to destroy oakvale, the heroes guild, most of the structure of every town from the original, they could've at the very least shown us this magical continent that all the npc heroes ventured to, but never took the oppurtunity too. I mean come on now, why spend all this time developing an enthralling mythos only to never explore it???

The reason everyone wants Fable 2 is because it's unattainable.

You ever wanted something that you knew couldn't have? Then the more you knew you couldn't have it, the more you wanted it? This is the case with Fable 2 coming to PC.

People are throwing a fit for it, but I would be willing to bet money that if there ever was a port; it would recieve 10x more negativity than we have seen with Anniversary.

TLC is a legend, whereas Fable 2 didn't make it anywhere near as big. You think that you should get a major discount on Anniversary because it's not good enough, just how much more of a discount will you want when Fable 2 releases because "well I never really liked it in the first place"?

PC gamers have become cheap thanks to Steam and other marketplaces. This is good for the consumers, but very bad business for developers. Something that's been hanging around a while like Fable 2 is very likely to get many people saying "I played that on Xbox. I'll wait for a -90% off sale."

If a game doesn't have a cult following like Fable 1, where developers can be sure that it will be a massive hit; then they are unlikely to invest their time into it. Basic business sense.

This is very far off from the truth. The only entity that would actually lose in the scenario is Steam. Steam bought the product keys from the developer/re-seller for the same price regardless of what Steam advertises as the price.

Besides that, Fable 1 was the best in the fable franchise cause it wasn't broken down and narrowed with a little golden trail that led you everywhere. They broke Fable two down and made it too oversimplified. They took all the thinking out of the game completely. Instead of looking at the map in the heroes guild and planning my route out via the waystone i would teleport too, all i had to do was follow a trail that was blatantly lined up before me. The same thing happened with the magic, instead of thinking out spell combos and figuring out which spells to level to benefit you the most, you get stuck with 8 dinky spells to level. Not only did they more than cut the spell in half they made it almost impossible to make hybrid combos of strength and magic or skill and magic. The only thing i did like about Fable 2 was that the maps were bigger, but as far as everything else goes, it was pretty bad.

Oh and i forgot the dog. I loved that dog like a brother. One of the other good parts of Fable 2.

Preeeetty sure lots of people just don't own an Xbox dude. Like me. I gave mine away to my kid brother and he demolished it a few years ago. I would love to be able to own the game, and play it again. But I sure as hell aint gonna buy an Xbox 360 to do it.

If you've read the negative of reviews from Anniversary, you'd know most critics downed it for being -the exact same damn game- as Fable TLC, just shinier. Oh yha, and it had lots of bugs that the original had -and more-, so there is also that.

That old adage: Don't talk about something unless you know what you are talking about.

Game sales have rose significantly over the years, and are only increasing. In the meantime we're only becoming better and better at developing games. More, faster, cheaper.

Basically that means pricing should -sure as hell- be going down.

Not up. Or staying the same.

Fable 2 answered a lot of the disappointments from the first one with the size of the world, the population, more consequences and more important NPC's to act with. Unfortunately it also stripped away a lot of Fable 1's charm. I have it on 360 but it deserves a PC port. The landscapes were truly breathtaking at the time.

Based off of the previous discussions I've had in other posts with you, I would say that I know a hell of a lot more about the industry than you do.

Yes, some may not have the 360 and have not gotten to play it; but the point is, there are plenty of people who did - to the tune of 4.19m

What I'm trying to say, is the folks who want it (which includes myself) just aren't worth enough to make it fiscally worth it whenever new content will be worth far more. Especially whenever we have a large chunk of the community who refuse to buy a PC game until it's on the market for five bucks. (again, I'm guilty of this too in some cases.)

If you think that this is incorrect, then answer this question: 'Why haven't we already had all of the ports that everyone has been asking for?' And "BECUZ LIONHEAD HATES IT'S FANZ" isn't a valid excuse.

Fable 2 was better because of the huge open areas instead of confined spaces, combat was improved IMO, had much better writing, voice acting and story, was a lot longer, had an atmosphere that always felt slightly depressing even in bowerstone and oakfield, music always felt epic yet personal at the same time, controls were improved, the addition of the dog, ability to choose your gender, marriage was improved, the ability to have kids, the addition of dyes, the purity/corruption bar, able to buy any house or store and the intricite economy system.

Of course it isn't without it's flaws. Dumbed down magic and the dumbed down equipment system are the only things off the top of my head, but these pale in comparison to all the additions it got.
EvilShootMe 26 Agu 2014 @ 11:10am
I liked its morality system more. and I prefer the setting, feels more Renaissance-y, where the first one is (for me) more a Medieval setting.
Honestly, for me it's more a matter of feeling, than objectively better mechanics.

My thoughts exactly! I love it, aside from the change in the magic system. I never understood why people hated it so much...

The setting is my absolute FAVORITE part of Fable 2 and 3. I'm a massive fan of the steampunk style, and they both fit in to that Victorian-style era perfectly.

I think they could have also done well with just expanding onto the original's story around that era, but I have no regrets over them going steampunk! :spacebeer:

Victorian, that's the word I was looking for.

I am not a huge fan of the magic in Fable 1 (or in video games in general for that matter). I tend to use range weapons to replace it, so you can understand that between an arsenal composed of bows and crossbows that are pretty much the same, and one with rifles, semi-auto pistols and blunderbusses, I prefer the latter. Aside from that, I thought the story was entertaining, and it had its share of funny moments and quests.

Good to know I'm not the only one to thinnk like that. I had a 360 back then and pre-ordered fable II, fueled by enthusiasm brought by the lying Molyneux. Looking at it objectively fable II was a decent game but it lost so much of the charm of the first one and replaced it with new features that did not make up for it (the job system quick time events in particular. I had more fun chopping wood on Runescape).

The new setting wasn't for me either. If I wanted guns I would go play another shooter. Also, who needs armour when you can wear clothes (obvious sarcasm).

I'm indifferent to whether they release fable II on PC, but if they do I have no intention of buying it.
Nikki 30 Agu 2014 @ 7:30am
I don't know If I would buy Fable 2 for PC or not. I also don't know if I will buy Fable Anniversary or not. I do know that if I do buy Fable Anniversary it will not be a preorder, and it will be at least one month after actual release.

With the trend of the Fable series I doubt I will play Fable 4. I will not buy an Xbox One just for that game.

I said this somewhere, but I used to be a big fan of the Fable series. I did not say what changed that. I lost interest in the Fable series after I started playing Skyrim.
striker93 30 Agu 2014 @ 7:38am
All a matter of opinion really. i love the original fable and i share equal love for fable 2 "besides a few small things", the same can't be said for fable 3 though as that killed everything about fable imo
