Heavy vs Light weaponry.

I know this thread has been burned out for more than ten years now, but I'd like an updated take on it.
For most of the game, I've been using the Obsidian Katana and I quite liked it. However just before the Arena I switched to the "Weapon of the Damned", and while I noticed the increase in damage, I also found the slower swinging speed a major annoyance. That went even worse when I faced the minions for the first time, as the slow swing speed makes them being able to guard and disrupt very easily.
Am I missing something here? Should I go back to light weapons? Thanks.

Light weapons are better unless you berserk a lot, in my opinion. If you want the best Katana in the game, collect 15 silver keys and either marry Lady Grey, or become mayor of Bowerstone. In the mayor's manor there's a silver key chest waiting for you. It's a lot better than Obsidian Katana.

heavy weapons [you can get an obsidan great axe in oakvale for free anytime after finishing training in the guild] have an advantage that there swinging attacks are more like sweeping attacks which help in places like the hob caves so youll hit 4-5 slow swarmy targets at once light weapons are generaly better though
