fishing and digging

when can i fish and dig i see the spots but i can't do it, i need to get those blue shrooms and i need to fish to do so

i'm using controller, i found the guy who sold the spades and rods finally he was not in the open or on the map. If you know how, how do i use the d-pad to use the emote i set after pressing ^, the dpad turns blue and bring me to the list of items and emote in a quick menue but i just want to use 1 of the 4 i assigned

I'm playing on a PC and just can't get a fish. I press left m ouse each time it lights up and let it alone when it's dark, but I've wasted hours trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong!

I am having the same problem. Did you figure it out already?

To answer my own question: you have to rapidly and repeatedly press/release the left mouse button when the 'reel in' text is lit up. When it is dull, no clicking, repeat until the cursor moves all the way towards the left (the hook) until it says you caught something (hero happy pose). Hope this helps future players.
Also, one has to often press G (PC) for the left side menu to appear, for to show the spade (dig area) especially. Very important in graveyards.
