What are the differences between the 8th and 9th Gen versions?
  • The Island is only on PS5/XBS

This is the thread to discuss the next-gen version of the game sticking to 9th Gen consoles this year and not coming to PC.

Here's a personal opinion on this that a member of 2K staff provided in the past for NBA 2K as the same thing happened with that franchise:
Wanted to address the PC discussion and give some insight from a business perspective on why it takes time for sports games to make the transition on PC's vs. console. I can assure you, this isn't 'laziness', in fact, this has been the case nearly every single generation - it normally takes a few years to see this change occur. Here's a big reason why:

As much as hardcore gamers buy new consoles or super high-powered PC's, most players do not own the biggest/brightest tech out there. When looking at what gen to put on PC, you have to look at the player base, and what capabilities their hardware has from a minimum spec perspective.

So let's say to run the new gen you need a much higher spec'ed PC, you may cut off 30-40% of the PC market, who is able to play the game at min-spec on older gen. Usually after new consoles come out, there's a big uptick in players improving PC's more casually, and games that have yearly iterations base decisions like this on the percentage of players on PC who meet the min spec threshold.

I know most in here are hardcore players, as are most of us, so this can be frustrating, but PC is vastly different than console, where everyone is on the same machine. Therefore, you have to base decisions on where the most amount of players can play. That's the business side of it.
Note that this is not an official statement.

This whole thing is an Appeal to Ignorance fallacy. I was gonna post a whole paragraph on hypocritical business practice, but I'd rather not partake in pedantics.

PC release is NOT a port.

Yes it is. The Creations tools don't even have real mouse and keyboard support.
So I guess that brings me to my next question of what other features are exclusive? Or is it just the island thing cuz if it's just the island then quite frankly if it's just a microtransaction mess I don't care

It's just that, and yes the expectation so far is a lot like you describe, so a little grim for the PAYING CUSTOMER WHO HAS BY ALL RIGHTS PAID YOU MORE THAN ENOUGH ALREADY. HELLO?

However that "microtransaction mess" comes with CAW parts, which we don't know for sure yet but could cause PC Community Creations to be straight locked out from the console community or have a ton of parts that could mess you up completely and irreversibly if they happen to not be present in your version of the game (or vice versa, console messing up PC, I should say). As far as I can tell nothing has been done to spare us this suffering.

By "mess you up" I mean tons of creations not being downloadable, not that it would brick your $1000 USD gaming computer, though that's happened before.

Then I suppose there's the possibility that nothing from the "microtransaction mess" will actually be uploadable to Community Creations or that 2K has secret plans for our benefit but I'm not counting on that.

AND FINALLY TO CONCLUDE someone claimed to have spotted prices for these CAW clothes
(WHETHER HE'S FROM THE CREATION SUITE OR THE ISLAND THAT GUY IS A CAW AND IF OPTIONS ARE IN ANY WAY LIMITED FROM ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER THAT IS AN ABSOLUTELY AWFUL MOVE ON YOUR PART, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE) in one of the trailers and they appear QUITE expensive for what they are (though we of the glorious PC gaming master race are "safe" from these exactions, at least this year).
Bro, the PS5 has been out since 2020. What do you mean it takes a few years to see change occur?

Laughable
Some people can't run it, and some of those who could won't buy it because it's not the full experience, despite the full price. :leaSmug:
Of course, 2K is so userfriendly thry want the 20 people with older PC's then mine able to play the Game too!

My Rig is basicly from 2016 with a 3060 in and still gives the PS5 and Series X a good run for their money.

And be real the only reason for The Island is to sell more MTX to the players, the only thing such a mode was integrated in NBA 2K. I do not mind getting this Garbage in the WWE Series.
I mean it is really cool when you get an NBA Rookie Contract but can not afford a new T-Shirt and a Haircut from it.:steammocking:
They simply don't want hackes to blow their MTX system and hurt their Cashflow.

Yes i will get it, not sure if i get it at release maybe not, also since i am buying these games for decades now, it is always good to wait for a few Patches anyway.
Yes it is sad that we do not have Crossplatform Community Creations but i can live with it.

Hey Zeo, we've got 14 days until the early access launch, and we STILL DON'T EVEN KNOW if the game's graphics will be from the eighth-gen consoles or the ninth.

And of course, no one has even tried to explain why the damn island won't be coming to PC.

Still think their community manager is doing a good job, huh?

If I remember correctly, it's always close to the wire when that information is released, unfortunately.

If that PR line apparently from the dev team is correct, that's likely the most detail that will be made public, I imagine.

Considering what their role is, yes! You might have an issue with the marketing decisions, but that's not on the CM.

It's a FOMO marketing tactic. They show just enough to show what's new (but not what has/hasn't been fixed). And coerce you with preorder bonuses.

What's funny is the other 2k games are worse. Literally no gameplay or information until launch day.

Zeo, CONSIDERING THEIR ROLE, we still haven’t seen the community manager here, on Reddit, on X (Twitter), or ANYWHERE.

CONSIDERING THEIR ROLE, communication with players should be a priority, especially when a negative spiral starts forming—when the community feels abandoned for a long time and gets no answers to key questions. A simple "Hey guys, I’m here, we’re keeping an eye on this, we’re not ignoring you!" would go a long way. At the very least, this is the bare minimum.

A GOOD community manager, for example, would urgently get clarification from the team about:

Graphics on PC – will it be on par with the 9th-gen consoles or are we getting an outdated version?
The Island mode – why is it missing when many players have hardware that’s equal to or better than an Xbox Series S?
All the other major unanswered questions that keep coming up.

Beyond that, maintaining a real dialogue with the community isn’t just about giving signs of life—it’s about making sure feedback is actually heard. And ideally, considering this is an ANNUAL GAME, the CM should be working with the marketing team to establish a clear, consistent communication strategy that prevents this mess from happening EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR.

Because at this point, it's not just a small issue—it's a yearly communication crisis that could (and should) be avoided.

Yeah, I completely agree.

It’s frustrating because it doesn’t have to be like this. Just communicate clearly, be transparent about improvements (or lack thereof), and let players make an informed decision. But instead, they keep the mystery going until it’s too late to refund.

Just like 2K Support, not even Community Managers can divulge new information, only clarify information that has already been made public. The answers you seek fall under new information.

The CM role in 2K Sports games is different to what you expect if you compare to other companies. If you were on the WWE 2K Discord, you would see the CM posting there but they have so much going on behind the scenes that they can't be out posting everywhere.

Bro, no, that's wrong again. "Out posting everywhere"? That's a heck of a leap when defending a lack of communication *anywhere*.
We are better off, the Island is all about Microtransactions and we have more then enough of that with Personas still being locked to My Faction. It does mean we won't be able to access that CAW content that is locked to the Island (at least for now) but I will not buy in game currency for that stuff regardless of the mode.
