MGS 3 and emulators?
Has anyone tried playing metal gear solid 3 using an emulator? If so, does it run well?

My specs (if necessary):
GTX 780 TI
I7-4770K
16GB RAM

Just buy the console version that came with the HD edition or even the 3DS version.

Enable the MTVU hack and you're good to go. Press F9 to toggle between hardware and software mode to see which you want to stick with.

It runs fine with a Phenom 2 955 amd 6870 better then a console thanks to better AA and higher resolution.
play with the settings and find your sweetspot.
Oh and i play with a rumblepad 2 keyboard sucks

MGS3 with emulator you need good pc to run it 60fps or 50fps pal version.

Word of warning with emulating MGS 3. Do not trigger Snake's nightmare in the cell. This will cause your game crash everytime you load that specific save. The problem stems from the fact that Snake's nightmare is actually a short seperate game not included in the iso.

It'll run well (my rig is a bit weaker).
In hardware mode (both DX9 and DX11) some lighting effects might be missing, the CODEC conversations are glitched out, the water glitches to the point where it's unplayable - other than that it runs solid (pun intended).
In software mode none of this occurs, yet it runs @ 5-15 fps.
So I'd recommend to play it through in Hardware Mode, and in two specific locations - the boss fight in the flooded cave and the boss fight in the river with the dead people - you should turn on Software Mode.

MGS 2 on the other hand proved to be significantly harder to emulate with a stable frame rate, but this one fortunately got a pc port, wich is still findable online, and comes with a community fix.

I was gonna say, MGS2 Sub was on PC too. At the time, it was the largest size for a game, roughly 7gb I think. I can't find my MGS 3 disc, but luckily I still have it on my ps2 HDD. I'll have to try it out. MGS 3 was my favorite version. Ground Zeroes didn't have the funny codec chats like in MGS 2 or MGS 3, I miss that.

This is undeniably one of my biggest qualms with the game

It would have been funny if they referenced Big Boss's voice change.
"Paz isn't here"
"Boss, you feelin' ok? You sound different."

Bassam, I just played MGS3 via emu and it works great, no lag. If you're using a ton of codes from like codebreaker then it'll slightly lag, but other than that, plays just as good as the ps2.
My specs
3.2Ghz Quad Core 64bit cpu
GTX 780
8gb ram
I dumped my bios but had trouble getting it to work, so I used a japanese one on the net. My system bios files are;
scph-50001_bios_v9_USA_170.nvm
scph-50001_bios_v9_USA_170.rom2
scph-50001_bios_v9_USA_170.erom
scph-50001_bios_v9_USA_170.rom1
scph-50001_bios_v9_USA_170.bin
I don't know why it doesn't detect it. I used an elf tool to dump it to my memory card, then transfered it to a usb drive using ulaunchelf.

Anyways, it plays great, I did enable 2 speed hacks thou. I tried setting up .pnach files but it wouldn't work. Use codebreaker elf or cheat engine. If I find out a solution why my files aren't working, I'll post an update, OR if someone here knows whats wrong. BTW I'm using latest version of the official emu, all settings default except the 2 speed hacks, one is for 3+core, can't remember the other one. Essentially, if you can run Metal Gear Solid 5 Ground Zeroes, you can run MGS3 no problem.

Thank you, I appreciate the update man, I already completed the game though :P

*Update, got my bios to work. Guess I had to open and close it a few times for it to recognize. Graphics and gameplay looks better IMO.

OT does anyone know if The Phantom Pain has different camos like MGS3? Ground Zeroes had none :/

BTW I've been working on some cheat tables, but they change every time you enter a new area or start pcsx2. Most of the codes are byte or 2 bytes. Stamina at max I know is 117 for 2 bytes, and 30000 for byte -(great with the spider camo). Battery is 60 at full charge 2 bytes.

Later guys
