Do you think it's worth getting a PS3 just to play MGS4?

As the topic says; it's something I've been thinking about, since I am in the middle of my quest to play through every Metal Gear game. My local game store currently has PS3's for $170, and I'd trade in my old 3DS.

I'm trying to think about what else the PS3 has that would justify the purchase. I would get the Metal Gear HD collection, naturally; probably the Ico/Shadow of the Colossus bundle; and probably Haze just as a novelty.

I need the internet to make decisions for me!

no but it is worth it if you plan playing also all other good exclusives (god of war,last of us,heavy rain,uncharted etc)

You have to wait for a huge, huge discount on a PS3 if you want to buy it today. It's not worth it at full price.

Hmm, if you want only MGS4, maybe try renting it from the store/borrow from the friend, for a few days or a week, but if you want some other exclusives, then go for it :)

I'd also recommend playing other PS3 exclusives like the last of us, uncharted, heavy rain, beyond two souls, and so on, to make sure u got ur moneys worth

It's basically a movie. I think it had like 10+ hours of cutscenes. I don't think MGS4 warrants a purchase of a single game.

Just like Bloodborne alone doesn't warrant the purchase of a PS4

As a die hard MGS fan, I'd say MGS 4 was easily the worst in the franchise. Definitely not worth getting a PS3 for (though the other exclusives are indeed great, especially The Last of Us)

It also has nothing whatsoever to do with the storyline in Phantom Pain.

Yes, it is, any one who tells you otherwise needs a head examination. The PS3 has a wide selection of games as of today, the MGS Legacy Collection is a great deal even used and without MGS1 and VR misions.

Simply for MGS4? Definitely not worth it.
The series took a lot of wrong turns with MGS4, its not a bad game BY FAR, but its undoubtfully the worst game in entire franchise along with MGS2. Unbearablely long movie sequences, flawed storyline and dull characters are all written over the place. Of course Im talking about MGS-Wise rating scale here.

For example, no one really knows what a Crying Wolf is nor cares, while everyone knows The End or Psycho Mantis. Thats the difference.

Worthwhile to buy? Yes.
Worth buying a PS3 along? Nah.

Just go watch the movie sequences in youtube and you wont be missing a thing.

Nope worst game on the series it pretty much has good gameplay content for 2 chapters then its just boring gameplay and cutscenes.

I dunno, my sister owns a PS3 and basically all I play there is MGS4 and Last of Us: I wouldn't say MGS4 is the worst title in the series (for me MGS2 is the worst), and it IS worth it if you are going to replay the game more than jut once.

MGS4 isn't worth getting a PS3 over alone. Honestly, MGS4 is 70% cutscenes anyway so I'd say save your money and just watch a Let's Play.

I decided to put it off for now. Maybe later when we're closer to release of MGS V. I would really like to play Tokyo Jungle too, but I'm going to use the money to build a weecade instead.
