METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

Giant mech boss and POW characters?
Just curious if anyone else has tried playing through the campaign as one of the characters you rescued, not Snake? I'm curious mostly because the big mech boss fights seem nigh impossible, so I'm wondering if there's some inherent "buffs" that Snake gets that make the game inherently easier?

Snake benefits from all the upgrades to his arms, and the unique arm type weapons like rocket fist. So he's superior to the other characters with the power of technology.
Snake can have every staff upgrade applied to him at once, so playing as DD staff is mostly for challenges and the FOB mode.

Also, fighting Sahelanthropus is far from impossible, it has various weak spots and I'd even say using D-Walker's minigun almost trivializes the whole fight, assuming you're talking about Mission 31 of course.

is the mini gun on DW really that good?

ive ended up modding for a NG+ style playthrough, enhanced the enemys in many ways and decreased my own in many ways.

had to make this game a challenge, never really used D walker or any of the b uddys.

Against sahelanthropus specifically yes. It has a high sustained damage output, a lot of ammo, but comes at the cost of not having great penetration and being fairly inaccurate, however sahelantrhopus' armor isn't really that strong and he's pretty much impossible to miss, as a bonus it can also shoot down his missiles very easily, not to mention that being in D-Walker makes you more mobile, durable, and harder to hit. So taking D-Walker, the max rank gatling gun, and maybe a falkenberg as backup should be enough to deal with him easily.
1 - sahalantropus feature weak points/destructable pices
2 - sahalantropus have extra-fragile spots (as rule chest when opened)
3 - just RND auto grenade launcher as well as cluster misile

And so you can like kill regular one withing less than minute
For extreme one it's about 2-3 min depending on amount of runing around

I personaly just run forward and blow up white pods on his back with AGL, then i focus on legs and if he opens chest CMG it to deal huge damage
