METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

The source of the Kojima/Konami conflict was MONEY, as stated by Rika Muranaka.
Daley: "The main reason for the falling out, at least in her opinion, is that Kojima gets paid a salary, and doesn't make any profit share on the game. He gets paid a certain amount no matter what, and he was spending so much money and delaying the project, and adding all these features and making sure the game was the biggest and best thing it could be, and Konami was unhappy with that because [delaying] has no effect on him. He was spending the budget on this and that and upgrading the Fox Engine and then delaying further because the engine wasn't ready, and Konami wasn't happy with that because he gets his salary and he takes a more traditional "Japanese man" approach by not taking a profit share. So in doing that, he gets a little more than a game creator would but doesn't take bonuses from the game selling well."

Yong: "So you're telling me that Kojima wanting to make the game the best it can be is what started the conflict?"

Daley: Yes. In her eyes, Kojima's a fantastic creator, and probably the best creator of his time, but he doesn't have a strong business sense like Konami would like him to have. Where instead of, for example, cutting corners by lowering foliage resolution, he wants to make sure everything looks as good and polished as possible. She said they paid for her to write 30-40 songs that ended up not being used, and he'd tell her to write another one, then another one, then another one, because he settles for what he likes and has a good mind for what people want to see and what people want to hear. (Amen on that, yo: Avirdi's personal addition).

Daley: "She's worked directly with Kojima for the music before so she does have some insight, and personally believes that the music has suffered in MGSV because she's not a part of it, because they couldn't afford her. So instead of paying her to go to all these people and recruit them for the music, they chose to remove her from the equation and go to the people directly."

Sadly.

This guy is just amazing. He's the true definition of the modern creator that will do anything to perfectly produce his craft. Started as the mocked newbie in his company, became the vice president, and is now one of the most respected developers in the industry. He'd rather have his creation perfect and polished rather than cutting corners - and it showed through all of his games even on Policenauts, Snatcher, Boktai and ZOE. Hopefully, when he leaves, he will choose the right company that will give him all of the resources and freedom that he needs.

While this is sad to hear and terrible for the non Kojima employees affected by this (bc let's face it, he can get a job anywhere), it amazes me that Konami still shelled out the money and did their part. Most companies would have just cancelled it or set a hard deadline after going over budget so many times or delaying.

Glad for that, at least, but yeah, screw them for being so spiteful and cancelling Silent Hills, etc. Maybe Kojima going elsewhere and starting fresh is what we all need.

I think I should call BS on this as they are not allowed to talk about such matters outside of konami. or the fact that she has remade 4 songs in the prodject so how does she have such an insight on how it is.

And if that is true.....I do wonder how much trouble she is in now xD as Konami is very strict with that. sooooo shes ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and most likely gonna have to pay a big ass fine

I dont't know if they know it but Konami is nothing without Kojima and his MGS.

Might as well black out everything Daley says. He can barely breath and move at the same time. He's incredibly bad and I can't believe Yong has anything to do with him.

We all saw how well the Fox Engine was made with Ground Zeroes. They should be proud that Kojima had the pride and put together a team of people that could build a game engine + open world MGS game in 6 years. The game will launch on every platform except WiiU, including old gen consoles. I'd say he should be praised, not fired. But, I'm happy he's leaving. I can't wait to see what he does next without being bound by Konami.

That will be used in one game in 6-8 years.

dont get me wrong I think this might be the best game ever made. but how many years have they worked on this game and how much money does it cost to make 30-40 FREAKING SONGS! and noone of them being used.....all that money wasted. and that is just one example. how many more things like that has he done then?
