Metal gear games were never set to be realistic. New people to the series are just too caught up in "muh FOX engine grafickz" and "omg ♥♥♥♥ koanmi a kojima game" to just remember that MGS has a ton of non realistic ♥♥♥♥ in MGS3, the 1960s.

Wait.. this is getting people annoyed?
In a franchise where you have guys *flying* around and telling you to plug your controller into a second slot, people who can shoot bees out of their mouth and others that can literally photosynthesize or crab walk with disjointed limbs whilst invisible or shoot lightning out of their hands, Vampires that are running on water and surviving headshots and the Literal embodiment of Lady luck, and other tongue in-cheek throwaway breaks from reality like a casual conversation about how a Gun Magazine shaped like an infinity symbol would give you unlimited ammo or how eating a glowing mushroom could restore your batteries; It's instead the inclusion of a technology that actually does exist in the real world that is upsetting people and getting statements like 'unrealistic!'..?
What the?

Are these typically from people unfamiliar with the series or something?

I can't wait to see what sort of Villains and rogue's gallery this game contains, if they are anything like what we've seen in the previous iterations then these type of people who are apparently annoyed at something like this are going to lose their damn minds! Heh.

Your post made my day.

I'd also like to include the Infinity Bandanna to that list of unrealism. Also, an arm being able to take control over a host, aka Liquid Ocelot (I know it's faked, but before MGS4 was out, everyone took this development as fact).

first, i love that most of your example are from MGS3
Hehe, when going back and remembering some of the more unrealistic stuff from the series, Snake eater just seems to take the cake more-so then the rest.

They seem to have atleast tried to justify some of the recent stuff like Vamp by saying 'Lol nanomachines', but yeah MGS3 pretty much was just an Anime full of people with legit superpowers. Which wasn't a bad thing, I just wish they fleshed out their characters and backstories a bit better.

Damn, almost forgot about the Liquid/Ocelot hand possession thing also, that's a good one ;P

Or you know

The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ giant walking nuclear tanks

Some of which have full AIs in the 70s

i think the biggest thing people fail to relise is that these arent stealth game, they are Espionage games that let you do what ever you want how ever you want.

Hell no, PW wins, no contest.
After beating the mind of the boss inside a giant robot, a humanoid cat takes you to a dinosaur island to hunt a prehistoric version of metal gear rex, one of the most powerful weapons is a giant slingshot, your R&D team invents doritos, the walkman, mountain dew, a functional tank made of cardboard boxes, a banana (as a weapon) and a fulton bazooka

I don't remember that at all :O
I remember some silliness about the Boss AI using the power of love or something at the end.

Just looked up the Monster hunting stuff in peacewalker..
Between this and also discovering that there is apparently a 5th chapter that I was completely unaware of, I think I need to go back and replay that game.

Seems like a fairly significant amount of content I missed out on once I reached what I thought was the 'end'

the best mindset for a MGS game is to play it like you are in a james bond film, with all of the shiny gadgets. rather then ArmA.
I wouldn't say ArmA but Splinter Cell instead :P
I'm sorry you like ♥♥♥♥♥♥ games, go play Splinter Cell if you want something boring under the pretense of "reality." That's not our problem. :)

Just a fun fact: In 'The Dark Knight' Batman actually uses a version of Fulton Recovery in the Skyscraper when surrounded. The Skyhook Method.

Looks like it's not just Snake
