METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

Does anyone else find playing the old ones difficult?
So I'm killing time by re-playing the old MGS games. However I find it difficult trying to replay 1,2,& 3 because of the clunky controls.Don't get me wrong, the 3rd game is my favorite but going back to it I just can't put up with the shooting mechanics.I'm going all stealth yet trying to set up a shot is a phantom pain.Puns aside,it's hard to play the previous entries when their controls feel so outdated.
EDIT:The 3DS version feels so much better than the console versions. It has 3rd person aiming, updated character models, more audio & there's a reload button this time around.

Since my PS2 died years ago and I don't own any other console, I had to resort to an emulator to replay MGS3. And I'm using a 360 controller to play it on, but the minor problem I face is the lack of touch sensitivity on the buttons. MGS3 uses this function of the PS2 controller, but the 360 controller has no such flexibility.

I grab a soldier for interrogation, instant throat-slitting, thereby blocking me from enjoying one aspect of the game. I go to first-person view and aim my gun, but since target moved out of range before I could aim properly (the analog sticks on this controller are clunky as hell, and much less sensitive to full-tilts, half-tilts, and the tilts in-between), I wanted to slowly ease on the Weapon button so I don't shoot (like in the PS2) but darn thing shoots a round regardless.

I feel less guilt for replaying the game using save states because of these problems.
shouldnt have bothered emulating mgs3
I play all the old MGS games, I am playing MGS1 right now on a Emulator. Yeah, the controls are a bit bad, but it just reminds me of the MGS greatness back then. I love it.

I never been like a pro gameplay wise on the old MGS just because it doesn't feel right to me, stupid example is like reloading your weapon by unequipping/reequip it, so I only did the games a few times for the story/easter eggs/different ways to do things but never tried like hardcore difficulty whatever cause I really didn't like the way you were forced to play.

I have to say I do like the new gameplay a lot more and would probably will never go back to old games but I will keep all that great story in my memory~
EVen when MGS first came out iI hated the controls, did not stop me enjoying the game, but hated how I could not see enemies that could be right next to me because of no camera controls.

they weren't really difficult. Just they provide a challenge unlike most of the games out today.
The controls themselves shouldn't be a challenge to master. That's ridiculous.
Eh, there are games with worse controls. Anybody complaining about MGS2&3 are either dumber than DarkSydePhil or just trying to make it sound worse than it is. Sucks that the analog stuff in 3 didn't translate over to an emulator for that one dude, but it was a good system once you got the hang of it.

Subsistence gave MGS3 that 3rd person camera angle long before the 3DS version did, anyway. And you've always been able to shoot in third person, it's just required using the lock on button in most cases.

There are games with worse controls, but MGS3's controls aren't very good.Hell,I consider MGS3 as my favorite game & I agree that the controls are just a clunky over complicated mess.

I played them so much that I can get by perfectly. I actually find the controls in MGS 2 and 3 to work just as fine as GZ. At times I do sometimes find myself wrestling GZ's controls more than I ever did with 3 though.

Are your hands horrifying pretzel abominations?
I've always loved the MGS universe but couldn't get into the games till GZ because of the horrible controls, the gameplay just never matched up to the other brilliant aspects of the series, but that's all changed so I'm excited for TPP obviously!
You're telling me. I Peace Walker is the only one that I haven't played through, and I don't have a handheld. Idk, I think it may be on PSNow, anyway, I am dreading watching a full walkthrough on youtube to get the story I am missing. I may just have to do it though.
The controls were fine back in the day, but after MGS4 and GZ, it's tough to go back. I played MGS3 not too long ago, and it was a no go. I made it about 2/3 of the way through and just got bored.

If only...
I've just replayed MGS for the 1st time in years and had no problem with the controls outside of the sniper rifle, that one thing is annoying as it forces you to lay down and the aiming is slow as all hell.
i just finished MGS3 with an emulator today with a noname crap controller and the controls were not that bad, i managed to non-lethal all the bosses and do a non-lethal playthrough but would've been better to play with a ps2 controller that's for sure
