How to S rank soldiers?

I read that I could play as soldiers to rank them up in the field in addition to combat deployment. I played as one soldier for hours yesterday but I only ranked up once. Do they stop ranking up if I get them to A in combat or something? I know if I used deployments there are multiple tiers of medals.

I got several when I finished the game, I have yet to meet S ranks in the AO's only other way is leveling up the A++ ones into S maybe.

I got several when I finished the game as well. Basically you can play as one and rank it up and then move onto another. I have been able to push four up into A++ just by alternating them

sennding your troops to do missions have a chance to give you S ranks too. jsut read the rewards. but the chance is still low

The higher your heroism score the higher the chance to get higher ranks out in the wild from what i have seen.

I just got 2 S rank soldiers from in Prisoner extraction 18, one of them was prisoner and another was spotlight operator. it appears they appear in AO as well.

I believe that a few things affect the appearance of S ppl:
- heroism score
- overall game percentage
- overall side ops number solved

If you've repeated first few missions over and over and grinded heroism to a million for example, I don't think you'll see S mobs till you get some other percentages.

As you get further in the game the level of both enemy soldiers and volunteers (depending on heroism of course) increases. I find at least one S rank enemy guard at every outpost now. Only main story missions or online infiltrations/defences (I don't do this as you could lose the unit) increase a combat staff members stats, and even then once they have both medals it will not go up anymore. They will only ever go up by about two ranks (E to C, A to A++ etc)

I've heard your Intel Team level contributes to the chances of seeing higher ranked soldiers out in Afghanistan/Africa. Heroism, in my experience, only affects the levels of your volunteers.

Heroism has a big part to do with what ranks you get. I'm at 317855 heroism, and I get S ranks on a regular basis. S+ If I get lucky. I'm guessing by the time I get the 400000 mark S++ will be the regular soldiers I'll get.

If you have that much heroism and are still only getting S ranks it does not bode well for me as I am only on 120,000 heroism.

I'm about to hit the 500,000 Heroism mark, but I still haven't found any S+ or S++ volunteers.

I've only found S rank soldiers out in the field and half the time you need to be searching for heavy units. If you want to rank up your current soldiers from A and higher or any grade, send them on deployments. They can obtain medals that allow for a small to moderate stat boost. Or you could also play the specific soldier in the field yourself and upgrade their proficiency via missions or side ops. Other than that I am exhausted on ideas of how to upgrade. i also have not found many S++ or S+. S ranks are now moderately common as you clear outpost on a regular basis. Hope this helps ^_^

The problem is you can't isolate any variable so it's hard to say if seeing higher rank soldiers is due to more heroism, more missions completed, more side ops completed etc because they all come at once.
