Otherwise, that early on there isn't much you can do but avoid it. Try sneaking in at night, it won't be able to detect you then long as you stay crouched in grass if the spotlight comes near you.
Just to mention I think you can fire off a couple of missiles from the Honeybee and still complete the objective. On my first time through I had forgot about the "don't use any ammo" objective and fired off two missiles at the Skulls before I remembered and I still got credit for that objective. Don't know if I just got lucky or if you're allowed to use a couple.
I don't know how many honeybee rounds it would take to down that gunship though.
You can actually take heli's down with a grenade launcher, so the honeybee would probably one shot it.
Ai works in weird ways sometimes. I saw a video where a guy got spotted by the enemy after he ordered a mortar strike, and he was hidden away from them the whole time and wasn't in alert beforehand. Makes no sense really.
Other than their little quirks AI is great though. Love how they clear rooms in large groups using grenades when searching, like in the older games.
Not necessarily, on the mission where you raid the mansion for code-talker when the gunship comes at the end I used the killerbee on that and it took 5 or 6 missiles to drop that thing. I don't know if they get more powerful later in the game though. Conversely when I went and replayed the misison the OP is talking about and I used that big launcher that multi-locks it downed the gunship in one shot. So I dunno... :)
Think the later PMC's do have much better armour, especially helicopters. They definitely look beefier and take more damage to bring down.
The earlier Soviet ones don't take much, however, and the really powerful ones don't appear outside missions, much like armour and gear's (which is a shame, was looking forward to my stealth bungling up in free roam then getting chased by a tank or walker squad).
