So killing people = bad? (Demon Points)
Apparently if you kill people you gain Demon Points and your horn begins to grow. Is this true? Safe to say I've killed less than 15 hostiles, but still, if you ever want to change your playstyle from non-lethal to lethal, you'll be penalized for it? If that's true, that kinda sucks...

So using lethal weapons is bad. That puts such a limit on what you can do if you don't want Demon Snake. I mean, why give us all these cool, lethal weapons, if using them is bad? :steamfacepalm:

Its not bad per se, unless you really really hate bloody clothes and a big horn. Stealth routes tend to take more patience and can possibly be harder than the lethal ones, wich is the only thing that affects this game. If you want a tougher game, dont kill people.

If you want to use all the cool weapons later on then just slaughter everyone and do generally tons of bad stuff :)

I don't know how you get the horn to grow though ...
I've killed tons and TONS of soldiers and it's still small. But I admit, now that I have Quiet maxed out with tranq silenced sniper, I don't kill soldiers anymore (except heavy troops)
u must suck in this game. I fulton every soldier except the bad one.

The whole limit people from using lethal weapons isn't true, if you need to get the demon score down or justify the lethal method. If you need to get the Demon score down after killing a bunch of soldiers, then just go do that mission where there is like a bunch of kids you can extract. Also for every enemy you kill you can be saving a prisoner or fulton an animal anyway... I see no limits here to be honest is what I am trying to say. xD

After reading the “rules” of Demon Points I was wondering if aborting a mission would end up retracting the Demon Points gained throughout the mission. I’m assuming it doesn’t however I thought I’d ask just to make sure

After checking dates, I was wondering if the person who revived a 3 year old thread realized that he commented on such an old post or if he was intentionally being a d!ck. I'm assuming he just didn't check the date, however thought I'd ask just to make sure.

As long as you performed actions that do retract DP they will count as soon as you reach a checkpoint or abort/fail without retry, like successful extractions. Abort CAN however also *add* DP, depending on your actions or non-actions.

DPG01-----Introduction-----

Many people have abstained entirely from killing enemy soldiers out of fear of increasing their Demon Level, which results in limited gameplay, as most weapons available to the player are lethal. Hopefully this small guide will clarify the basics of the Demon System and encourage the use of different weapons and allow the player to experience a different way of playing.

On the other hand, for all of those who want to reach the Demon Snake level, in this guide you'll find a complete list of ways to increase your Demon Level, as well as things to avoid if you want to raise your Demon Level quickly.

DPG02-----The basics of the Demon System-----

The Demon System determines certain factors of the appearance of Venom Snake, the player can gain or lose Demon Points by performing certain actions; once the player acquires enough Demon Points, they will increase their Demon Level, which will trigger a cutscene and enlarge Snake's Shrapnel-horn. Sadly, there isn't any sort of indication in-game that tells the player exactly how many Demon Points they currently have, their only clue as to how much they may have is the current size of Snake's horn.

Also, one thing to note is that Hero points do not affect your Demon Points or Demon Level in any way, although certain actions that reward the player with hero points also decrease their Demon Points.

DPG03-----Demon Levels-----

There's 3 different Demon Levels:

1- Normal Snake: starting level; basic appearance of Venom Snake.

2- Horn Snake: it has a longer horn than Normal Snake (http://imgur.com/EbBrNdP). In order to increase your Demon Level to 2 for the first time, you must accumulate 20,000 Demon Points.

3- Demon Snake: it has the longest horn and Snake is always covered in blood (http://imgur.com/RwjC9lQ). In order to increase your Demon Level to 3 for the first time, you must accumulate 50,000 Demon Points.

Once you reach Demon Level 3, you can change your Demon Level back and forth by increasing/decreasing your Demon Points, allowing you to revert the effects of Demon Snake and change the horn's size.

Normal Snake: lowering your Demon Points to 39,999 or less will change Snake's appearance back to normal.

Horn Snake: after returning Snake back to normal, if you raise your Demon Points to 40,000 Snake's horn will grow.

Demon Snake: after returning Snake back to normal, if you raise your Demon Points to 80,000 Snake's horn grows again and gets covered in irremovable blood.

All metal Gear Solid games punish you in some way for using lethal means to get through the game.

Previous games lock the perfect endings behind non-lethal, perfect stealth runs.

MGS5 doesn't lock any content away from you for going lethal, but if you kill too many people, you will have penalties for doing so that you can reverse later.

MGS5 is actually the most lenient about killing people compared to the rest of the MGS series.

Im sorry to reply to your old comment but i purchased the game this year, and ill clarify what i learned about the game and the demon points:
The game heavilly discourages you to kill enemy soldiers because its not the way its meant to be played. ( plus you have tranq pistol, tranq sniper and rubber bullets smg, that says something )
1 - MGS its first and foremost a stealth game, not a guns blazing CoD...
2 - Venon Snake its not a soldier allied to any Nation, he isnt an enemy of anyone ( except XOF ). He his a mercenary building his own personal private military company so he need manpower to grow, so the preferable way to play its stun and fulton everybody.
3 - im not saying you cant wear a cowboy hat or Rambo red bandana and go full "guns blazing" and say ♥♥♥♥ you to stealth, but seriously its not the way any MGS game to date its meant to be played. Treat them like a Thief, assasins creed or splinter cell games but in peace mode. Its why you are heavilly penalized for retardely killing anyone on sight.
