They have a sort of 'shield' that they regenerate once it depletes, then you can do true damage to them.
Since they are all boss units, they can't be affected by certain things that affects normal units.
Also you can run over to the terminal to avoid the zombie like soldiers, leaving you to face just the big guys
Don't forget that you can use space (on keyboard) to jump. If you can't stop them from firing rocks then jump out of the way and fight one skull at a time. Kite them. Wear combat armor.
Open the map and use the W/S keys (Up and down on d-pad I imagine for controllers) to switch from placing markers to calling a supply drop, it's faster than going through the missions menu.
The grom 11 is fine I think. I used the other one just below that in the research menu but it's pretty much the same.
