Shooting a bear in the ass with a tranq?

If you only have the tranq gun, yes, run, run fast.

It is easily done to shoot a bear with just the tranq gun. Just be sure to shoot it from a fair distance and it will take around 6-8 tranq shots to the head before it goes down.

I took it out with 3 or 4 shots, but there was a bit of a delay after the first two shots. Maybe it just takes much longer to take effect?

I've read you can even CQC them but I haven't tried it.

If you want to do it without getting hit even at close range, you can just exploit their poor turn speed when they charge. Basically shoot it in the face until it is almost about to hit you then dive left or right to the ground, sprint away and then turn around and repeat.

Can the bear become a buddy? I havent run into it but i might search for it if it can fight for you.

Yep. Tranq rifle takes 1 shot to the head to down it.

Nope. Only the buddys you get are part of the main story. Animals you fulton back, end up in the base's zoo.

It isn't that hard to hit the damned head, what are your usual games? Minecraft and browsergames?

Use the bionic arm, dash punch it from the sides when it stops after an attack. Do it around 10-15 times and it'll go down.
