EDIT: I do care very much about the story, considering I've been a fan for my whole life. I'm just annoyed at these people who are claiming to care but don't want to spend a little time to listen to a tape that will give them what they want.
This is exactly my point. These people are probably the same ones who made the "Metal Gear Movie" complaints.
Just never happy.
Yeah the tapes have story in them, and I've listened to all I have unlocked. Problem with this game is when there IS a cutscene, something will happen then its over just as fast as it started
I'll use quiet getting the neckless as an example, cutscene plays out, then they walk off screen...thats it..... Then appear back at the ACC and quiet is fine huh...ok?
Kojima focused on gameplay this time. He and his team have proven that they can do top-notch stealth gameplay, not just the story element.
Not to mention the game is based around you having a motherbase and doing contracts as a private army. So not all missions are story related.
I liked MGS for both gameplay aspect, and the story elements. But there was never enough gameplay for me. Playing the games for the first time, it's great. You play, you listen, you watch. But replaying them again is is a bit tedious with the amount of cutscenes going on. I always have to skip them just to play the game. The codec conversation in MGS3 at the beginning of the game lasts 30 minutes. 30 freaking minutes.
The gameplay in MGS games was always top notch for me. So yeah, i enjoyed both aspects. MGS4 delivered on the story content, and the game was made like a movie on purpose. To give Solid Snake, and the whole story a closure. They did a fine job in it. This time, you get more gameplay, less cutscenes. And those cutscenes that are in the game, are good.
Game was far from rushed. It's been in development for over 5 years.
It was very much rushed in it's final develop time. 2 story missions were cut out, and it's clear a lot of the late game story missions are just harder versions of older ones, even keeping the same debriefing screen and dialogue. :/
