not only that but the story, the patriotism, the drama, the spies, the shootout scenes etc etc. prime movie to get in Mood for MGS, gonna watch it at work now and play the heck out of MGSV this weekend hehe.

i am watching Escape From LA. so far:

- Snake is implanted with a virus that will kill him ("Designer viruses, wave of the future")
- Snake makes his approach via one-man submarine

its amazingly close to the original MGS. it came out when Kojima was working on it, there is no doubt he saw it in the theater. is John Carpenter a Kojima fan?

No, the original was out around the time he Kojima was working on the first game. Even stole the art from Kyle Reese in the original Terminator. Kojima was clearly a fan of American film and music.

Well yeah, he named him Snake after the original Escape From New York. I am talking the sequel's influence on Metal Gear Solid:

Escape From LA (1996)
Metal Gear Solid (1998)

Escape From LA came out 2 years before MGS. Just feels like the one-man-sub infiltration from MGS specifically was taken from this movie. Many of the shots they use in that sequence are very close to the movie.
