Can I just salute my soldiers?

My soldiers always stop to salute me while patrolling, so it's only common courtesy to salute them back. But I always end up whacking them in the face trying to figure out how. And they always thank me for it. I feel like I'm abusing these poor guys. Is there a way to just salute them?

Superior officers don't salute back unless an award is being given.

That isn't true, obviously you know nothing about the military and I'm not sure why you feel that is accurate. I was a Marine, in the air wing no less, so constantly surrounded by officers, and everyone, up to and including the 2nd MAW's commanding general would salute back any enlisted who saluted him. So you're wrong. 100%.

Been 4 years in Luftwaffe Officers School, the average soldier you see is Lt. and you and they salute constantly even the Generals salute back even tho they are already annoyed since every other rank is beneath them and has to salute first to show respect to higher ranks. Some are direct and tell you they are annoyed by the day in day out saluting because this is an Officers School were recruits and cadetts are in career to become officers, some just do not care.

Anyway, had the same quesiton how i can salute to my soldiers or how can i aggree to train with them?

Very rude to have only obvious option to beat up saluting soldiers, not how i want to be seen as Big Boss...
