What does "direct contract" do?
It's an option in MB staff management and I can't figure out what the hell it does or find anyone else who can figure it out. You're directing their contract? You're contracting them directly? What the actual ♥♥♥♥ does that mean in terms of gameplay mechanics.

Yea the motherbase staff stuff is still confusing to me too.

prevents them from being auto-assigned to different unit

Direct Contract staff cannot be stolen form FOB, but it also makes you unable to send them out on dispatch, or use them as a character out in the game world. Pretty much, if you want their stats to help your department level, but don't actually need to use them for anything.

Actually, no. You can still use direct contract people for FOB and missions, they're just unable to be killed perma or stolen. They will however as previous poster stated not go onto dispatch missions.

So it seems like there's no reason to use this mechanic outside of FOB

Seriously?

I'll just sit back and wait your next comment when you lose a specialist you needed to develop a certain weapon on - automatic dissmiss because you exceded the max number of staff.

Pretty sure they just go to the waiting room, which has no staff limit, when that happens?

There is a limit.

Thats incorrect. You can use any direct contract person as a playable soldier. It makes them uninjurable, unkillable, they can not be stolen, and they can not be sent out on deployments.

unless i missed something im pretty sure we are all forgetting to mention the usefulness of keeping motherbase soldiers with special skills. interpreters are keepers (at least one of each language) and so are rare skills like "anesthesia specialist" or "electrospinning specialist" just use your filters in a sequence that will help you boil down who you need and who is replaceable.

also i cant stress enough how informative pushing the select button each time you flip to a different section of your idroid can be. For each page, pressing select in idroid brings up an overlay that explains most of the stuff that isnt obvious right away.

You don't need to keep interpreters or the dude who enables weapon customization.

OP, hope you got the answer you were looking for.

In summary, putting a soilder under direct contract enables you to play with them in the main game world maps and FOB without fear of death if they fail, or fear of FOB kidnapping them if they're wormholed/fultoned. Also, under direct contract, you can't lose the soilder when another player infiltrates your FOB, and soilders randomly go missing from your base platforms. Direct dontract protects them. In short, they become like Snake in all these regards. Use direct contract on your most valuable soliders, S++, to keep them safe.

The downside to direct contract is that soilders under it cannot be deployed on combat dispatch. However, with the abundance of S soilders and now even S+ soilders you can get from FOB events points, you can probably afford to send plenty of S soilders out successfully on combat dispatch and retain your more valuable S++ ranks locked under direct contract.

Good luck.
