Is there a setting to set single fire(semi-auto) on rifles?
Or that setting is only available on some guns? I really hate it when I use the starting assault rifle and I fire 2 or more shots which is necessary when aiming at the head. Such a waste on the suppressor durability

Bumping this. I would like to know too. If there is, does it have a stun version?

I just found out today that if you have one of those dedicated "double-click" buttons on your mouse it functions as semi auto. I didnt remember that button was there since I never use it but today was the day,for me, that true semi-auto in MGS:V was born. Its actually quite OP to use semi auto in this game as everything is designed around wasting as much ammo as possible with minimal result.
yah customize a sniper rifle with a dot sight and a short barrel sure the fire rate will be lacking but at least you have the accuracy be cool if they had a change of fire settinng on the rifle

Disappointingly there is currently no fire mode select in this game and don't hold your breathe for the developer to add it. But if you have a nice mouse with software for macros like the Logitech ones you can create another fire button that works as single shot. Just create a macro with a 0.01 sec delay between mouse click down and mouse click up, works perfectly well.

EDIT: If you don't have a good mouse an alternative would be autohotkey a nice free program I recommend all gamers to check out.

But yeah single shot mode is pretty important especially since you can create assault rifle / sniper hybrids once you unlock the legendary gunsmith. Like using a UN assault rifle as the base with a Bambatov barrel with .308 rounds. If you don't single shot you'll chew through the very limited ammo and 8 round mag in no time.

I realise this is an old post but thought I'd put up this info for anyone just trying the game out now like me.

Unless you're using the G44K or any other Short-Barrel version of an Assault Rifle (Which is meant to be a spray-weapon), I don't see how anyone could be having difficulties with just tap-shooting enough to need a fancy mouse + software.

Then again people some people complain about all the Handguns being "Full-Auto."

tap=single shot hold=full auto rapid tap=semi auto depending on weapon of course

For me the rifles that work this way are only PGs and SVGs because of their slow fire rate. Others like UN ARC, G44 or MRS often shoot two or three more rounds, and I end up blowing up drones when I don't want it to happen. I don't know how lightly and quickly I must tap the button in order to make these rifles shoot only once.

Another stupid thing is that pistols and sniper rifles work as automatic weapons here too.

How slow is your mouse finger that you're accidentally firing two-shots with pistols and sniper rifles?

I spent my first 200 hours in this game not even knowing you could hold LMB to continously fire any weapon just because of habit.

Obviously slow enough for pistols I use; it doesn't happen as often as with assault rifles.

My point about sniper rifles is that it doesn't fit the description which says "semi-auto", not "full auto".

In the description for most pistols it says "automatic", so I guess it's justified.

It would be great if there was a switch from semi to full on assault rifles, instead of flashlight (does anyone even use them?), or suppressor switch.

What, the Giest? That gun is meant to be a "Sub-Sub-Machine Gun." Made the mistake of using it for the first time in the Skull Face mission. Blew through half the suppressor before I even registered what happened.

I use the variants of the Not-M1911 most of the time and have never accidentally fired more than a single shot.
Like I said, for an extremely long time I didn't even know that holding down the fire button was a thing. I just assumed it worked like any other game. (It's a great way to never hit anything regardless.)

But even with the fastest firing Rifle, you must be holding down the mouse button for an exceedingly long time to accidentally fire an extra shot.
Do you not just click, or do you hold down the button or something?

I can understand the short-barrel rifles, (aside from the fact using them for precision tap-shooting is like using a sponge to drain a bath), but that's it.

They basically take out anyone you point at them in close-quarters, and allow you to hold them up from the front.
Very useful for saving tranquilizers and just in general if you make the effort to use them.

Maybe there's something wrong with my mouse, or maybe I press it too slow for this game. There's been another thread about it, so I'm not the only one who's having problems with it.

When talking about pistols, "automatic" means "autoloading", aka semi-automatic. The gun would use the force of the previous shot being fired to load the next shot. This term was used to differentiate from revolvers, which required you manually use your fingers (normally by thumbing the hammer) to get your next shot ready to fire.

The pistols labelled in Phantom Pain as automatic, the AM D114 and the Burkov, are based on real-life semi-automatic pistols and you're right in that they should only shoot one bullet each time you fired, no matter how long you held down the fire button.

Likewise, every sniper rifle in this game is semi-auto or bolt-action, and should behave similarly.

The Problem OP has is "The Fire Button" and the game character pulling the trigger isn't a 1:1 simulation. (Even though I still can't imagine how this could be a problem outside a very specific set of extremely high ROF weapons.)

I've noticed in a lot of Japanese games it's seemingly customary to allow the player to simply hold the button to continously shoot at the highest ROF the weapon mechanically allows. Note that doesn't mean you'll actually be able to hit anything due to the random spread penalty in TPV, or the heavy Recoil in FPV.

The weapon itself is still operating as a Semi-Auto would.
