Just to clarify though, the character creation is not only for MGO. Suffice to say though, if you don't want spoilers, then ignore the character creator for now (You can customize your avatar anytime from the IDroid, too).
This is common in MGS. In the one for PS1 you had to change your controller port to beat an enemy. Sometimes this series breaks logic for fun.
Avatar creation is for the online elements only.
Naah, later on you can customize your avatar's face again. For some reason. I'm fairly sure its for MGO
It's not, it serves a purpose in the story too.
