How to get D-Dog to grow up?

Play the game, make some progress in both main story and side missions. The dog is not the only "buddy" you'll unlock way before you can use.

just keep comming back to base i think. or finnish a set amount of missions

Play the game, simple as that. I got dd around mission 2/3 and had him grow up by the time I reached mission 12.

Booooo. That leaves me speechless

I missed him and got him around mission 14 and and am now at mission 17 and after doing countless side ops he still hasnt grown. Is it more main missions that I have to do?

Go back and do earlier missions. Pretty sure he's supposed to grow up after completeing a specific mission.

Play a few missions (not side ops) and then return to base ever 2-3 missions, he should grow up in no time.

Ive done at least 6 missions and he still no grow. I grow impatient

You need about 6 story mission (if i remember right) and you need to return to mother base to trigger some cutscene with him. So by the time you get your next buddy or some time after if you didn't get him at the first chance.
