METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

Saving/Checkpoints
Im on the Afghanistan map, how do I know if Im safe to exit the game? There is no save system, so how do I know when there is a checkpoint?

Same problem here.

How can I force a quicksave/checkpoint? For instance, I was doing a large base, I complete the mission part of it (extraction) very fast. Then was going around looting..for nearly 45 mins..almost done and got killed (spotted, 20 enemies on me)

It restarted me back at start..lost all loot and the missoin extraction.

Can I leave to chopper to force save..then come back here..or what's the appropriate method. I really had this checkpoint bullcrap.

I agree. Never been a fan of checkpoint systems. I seriously don't know what they were thinking having no manual save option. Checkpoint systems simply do not function in an semi-open game like this, it really doesn't.

I agree.
Checkpoints system is an obsolete design originating from inferior hardware with no HDD drive.
I never do so called "savescum" in my games, but in MGS 5 IMO checkpoints are not as frequent as should have been and save anywhere outside of fight would make the game better.

I totally agree!

The game is completely auto save. To be sure the game is saved... use the heli, watch it auto save, and then you can exit the game.

Yes, same annoying thing in Ground Zeroes ; savepoint is near your objective or previous objectives. We need a map... Playing GZ my favorite spot was near a cactus :)

I'm loving this game already more than I had expected (even thought I'm not that far into it), but the checkpoint system is such a major issue for me. One of the reasons I haven't progressed very far is because of how the games saves. I hope an option to force a save/checkpoint is introduced, or I'll never finishs the game if real life keeps interfering.

They are a game design feature, which has nothing to do with the system whatsoever. Checkpoint saving wasn't common before 2006, and it had nothing to do with HDD drivers.

If you want to save, go to the objective area. Either side ops or main ops. Or go to the ACC via the chopper. The game saves frequently when on missions, but not when you free roam. You have to "manual" save by boarding the chopper there.
I figured out that it makes a checkpoint whenever you finish a mission, something arrives back at Mother Base, you move into a new area, or develope something. You will see the yellow circles in the top right.

Man... Did you ever hear about ZX spectrum and Commodore 64?
I bet you didn't.

Minecraft does a great job of autosaving in an open world game. Why not MGS5?! I loose a good 20-30 min every time I log back in. I've had entire enemy check points that I destroyed reappear after exiting and loading the game again. I'm enjoying the game but gimmie a break Hideo!

It actually saves every time that you do anything. Typically saves between outposts. Saves quite a bit actually... even saves when you return to the title menu.

So, as long as you exit the game properly via quit game in the title menu... you have nothing to worry about. Unless you end task or alt-tab and exit the game from the desktop... which is an odd way to exit a game on a normal basis.

Not true. I've lost data by exiting via the options/title screen.

You'll see in the top right corner, it will say saving.

You may want to contact customer service if the game is not saving for you. I've never had the game not force a save by going to title menu. I tested this several times and never once has it not saved for me. You very well may have a bug of sorts and I suggest reporting it to the devs.

Wow, this is obnoxious as all hell. I bought the game because of the hype and reviews, but now I guess I need to wait for the mod (to add quicksave), because losing 30+ minutes of progress every time you don't correctly guess an enemy's sight code is just absurdly frustrating.

How did this game possibly get over a 5/10 with such an obvious, mind-numbingly idiotic omission?
