Zero & the XOF at the hospital

Hi, I had a question about the lore after reading up on MGSV and playing through it twice.

Why did Zero and other members of the Patriots vow to protect Big Boss while he was in a coma at the hospital, only for Zero to just send XOF to kill him?

Zero didn't send XOF.

XOF works for Cipher which is a different organization that Zero WAS part of at some point. It's weird because he's referred to as Cipher, but his organization acts rogue and is sort of off the handle. It is now, in a nutshell, essentially trying to take over the world through means of armed military and secret suppliers. That's why they make "Metal Gears" and ♥♥♥♥ because they carry nukes and will scare the world ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Don't get me wrong, if a Metal Gear like Sahelanthropus was revealed during the cold war and was functional AND could launch nukes, that would be enough to start WW3 I'm willing to bet which is XOF's kinda plan.

From my understanding Zero and Big Boss had a disagreement about the way forwards but not to the point of trying to kill each other. Then Skull Face went rogue and Ground Zeroes happened. Zero himself lost control of things and Skull Face took him down, reducing him to the vegetable you see in MGS4.
