I just lost my 130 hr save!!

How? I have no idea. I started the game up and it said something about it being a work of fiction instead of showing my helicopter so I immediately shut it back down. Looking at the save files, they had saved already in that short time. (the last time i played was 16hrs before, and they were marked as 2 mins before).

So I tried to see if Steam had my save still but I think it actually copied over my online save with the local one that is now at the hospital. Did I really just lose everything?? what about FOB and online progress???

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO. Would Steam have a backup of my save? I don't have a clue what just happened with my game.

just fyi, this was at about mission 37, and I was extracting kids.

That's why, in every game with an autosave feature, like this or Dark Souls etc, you always make regular manual copies of your savefile.
But try this: MGSV seems to copy the saves to two locations, go to your steam userdata directory and check the folders 287700 and 311340. Compare the dates on the files, if they're identical, you're screwed, sry.

they are identical, i checked immediately after I shut the game down.

I lose my FOB too?? what about my MB coins? I thought the game was backed up by Steam

If tyou're unable to return your savegame by means @Milchschnitte suggested, you can download and use mine from this collection in the guide.

The first one with mission 40. You can replay missions 38-40 then and continue.
Sorry but I don't have earlier savegame on exactly mission 37.

No FOB and no MB coins here though.

Nonononono. Steam simply backs up your current save. So say your file is corrupted and you start playing again and the game autosaves your new file since it can't load your old one. Now steam's backup is of that brand shiny new useless save.

Manual backups people. Manual backups.

Thanks a ton for that. I'm sure you have different weapons unlocked and stuff but hopefully there's not too much different. If anyone has a save thats a bit earlier (maybe before you rescue all those kids) id be really grateful.

This is absolutely a nightmare....
