How does this thing work?

I know, place it and my team should do the rest. but it doesnt.

I started a side op and placed like ~40 pieces. used the heli to get out and... NOTHING.
I started a main mission and placed like ~6 pieces (couldnt do more), used the heli to get out and NOTHING. I tried to go to my motherbase. nothing. in the next mission i just can set new ones. but why, if they dont work?

I know sometimes it worked. i got some rats and some mice. I dont know how those things work. at this point I have a exclamation mark next to it but no explanation

can somebody tell me with EVERY DETAIL how this cage works? what do i have to do, to get animals? is there any max value? anything? i need help :/
With google i find nothing, just the list where to find the animals..

Do we play the same game?

Go somewhere. Place all possible (if max researched it's 8, not 40) cages on the ground. Or river. Or... Wherever you want.
Call the chopper to pick you up and leave the area by chopper.

Do not use "ESC / RETURN TO ACC" nor fulton yourself up on a container!
Also remember - cages don't work on motherbase. Only Afghanistan and Africa.

Exclamation mark next to something means you don't have enough resources to use it.
Cages need biological material and black carrot to work.
Go pick some herbs you lack of.

If you ask so, i dont think we play the same game. In my MGSV i have supply crate and can get more then 8, but ya i placed around 40 in a side op.
I said, i used the heli, did you even read my text? I even said i used it in a main mission and there is a cap for placement.

and The exlamation mark has nothing to do with my resources. I played every mission and capped my plants und some other stuff. i did close to every development and now i try to catch those animals and it doesnt work.

edit: I just looked it up. everything is max or close to max, except fuel.. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fuel

It works form me but it's usually just full of rats and bats.
Are the "drops" totally random or do you have to use some super secret places to get the rarer animals?

Try cages on those "special" locations you can remember (for example the river where you fought against Quiet or jungle before the mansion in Code Talker mission).
On such locations you'll gather most of Pokemon.
After you exhaust every interesting spot you can remember, feel free to ask where to find some you miss.
Here or in another thread, doesn't really matter.
