METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

Psst, you want some... OP glitched-out weapons?
(this glitch is not originally my discovery; I heard of it from a friend who heard tell of a Reddit post (https://www.reddit.com/r/metalgearsolid/comments/3kucpk/the_ol_silenced_100round_rocket_launcher/cv0rpcw?context=3) made by someone who heard it from someone else)

When I submitted a bug report about this a week and a day ago, I thought for sure the next patch would fix it. NOPE! Alas, yesterday was patch day, aaaand hey check out this new gun I just made that has become my new favourite stealthing weapon. It's a grenade launcher; one of the Sleep Gas FAKELs. I modified it to have assault rifle ammunition, a sniper scope and barrel, a high-accuracy muzzle, and a medium-strength suppressor. Now I can sleepify anyone in one shot, even body shots, even through heavy armor.

(oh whoops right, wanna remove that laser sight...)
"But Shoruke," I precognizantly hear you protest, "that's completely ludicrous, how and why do you even?" Well, chumplings, read ye forth and be amazed, both at these awesome weapons and the shortsightedness of devs who do not understand that PC Master Race games involve the use of the mouse.

setup STEP 1: Go to the weapon customization screen. If you don't know what that is, you probably haven't rescued the legendary gunsmith yet. Do some main ops, eventually there's a side op (or three) to go get this guy. He's a total bro, go get 'im.
setup STEP 2: Pick out a gun you want to glitch out. Note that you can only glitch-customize pieces of guns that you normally CANNOT customize, and only using same-slot parts of guns you CAN customize normally (for instance, you can't normally give rocket launchers the clip of an automatic shotgun. We can fix this.)

Okay now the for realies part.
STEP 1: Go customize a weapon where you CAN customize the slot you want to duplicate. (I.E. go reconfirm your Kabarga auto-shotgun's clip)
STEP 2: Select the weapon you want to glitch-customize (like, say, a rocket launcher). This is the part you aren't supposed to be able to do: open the slot's options *by clicking the mouse*. If there are no options, click again and HEY WOW you have selected THE FIRST THING ON THE LIST from that slot of the weapon you picked in step 1. So, you can't give your rocket launcher your auto-shotgun's drum mag (boo), but you CAN still give it an auto-shotgun clip (yay!). (if you didn't do step 1, your game will crash because that's how null-pointer errors work)

STEP THREE IS YOU CONFIRM THE EFF OUT OF THAT ♥♥♥♥ AND GO WRECK SAHELANTHROPUS IN 30 SECONDS

Wanna know some fun facts?
Clip types don't change EVERYTHING about your shot. This is highly abusable.
Also every gun can have a suppressor.

* damage amount and damage type are determined primarily by the base weapon. Tranq rifles that fire shotgun shells will deal sleep-type damage that does not pierce armour or materials under any circumstances, while rocket launchers that fire shotgun shells make people comically fly all over the place for no visually apparent reason.
* The amount of alert-y-ness your bullets generate when they hit walls or the ground is determined by clip type. A tranq rifle that fires shotgun rounds is going to cause a whole lot of "CP we're under fire holy cow send the army waaaah"
* knockback is determined by base weapon type. Rocket launchers that fire LMG bullets send people flying, and confuse the heck out of the enemy CP because you've probably suppressed your launcher and there's no actual explosion, just flying bodies. It's flipping great XD
* bullet trajectory (and AoE) is determined by clip type. Grenade launchers that fire anti-material rifle bullets fly in a pretty much straight line. Rifles that fire grenades have significant falloff, and make very loud explosions, but also have an Area of Effect.
* Penetration is determined by base weapon type. I repeat, a tranq rifle firing anti-material rifle rounds will still bounce harmlessly off those flimsy tin helmets.
* Can't attach a silencer to something? Give it a rifle barrel. Now you can customize the silencer.

Some of the guns I've made include:
* A rocket launcher (I can never remember the name, it's the one that "fires special warheads" or whatever) with an automatic shotgun clip. For when you absolutely, positively, GOT to destroy whichever ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is in that general direction, and maybe the guy next to him as well, accept no substitutes. Sahelanthropus is a joke when you're facing it down with this baby. (fun fact: you don't need to reload until you either run your clip dry, or you let go of the aim button!) (less fun fact: the clip apparently gets stored inside the viewfinder, so you can't use first-person view. Still very, very worth it.)
* A nonlethal assault rifle equipped with the magazine-loader grenade launcher's clip. Only six shots per clip, but hey, 6 super-rapid-fire stun grenades is pretty fun when you want to mess with people. (needs 2 or 3 hits to KO, but retains the grenade launcher's AoE)
* A sleep grenade launcher with the magazine-loader grenade launcher's clip. Comparatively passe, but... rapid fire sleep grenades! And still has a grenade launcher reticule so you can guesstimate falloff vs. distance.
* My new most favourite weapon ever, a sleep-grenade launcher with rifle ammunition. Body shots that instantly tranq through heavy armour in complete silence. All of my yes. Oh, ooh, oh baby, S-rank my missions harder, oh gods yes.
* A tranq rifle that fires grenades. Why not just use a sleep-grenade launcher, you ask? Because weapon slots, and also becuase For The Lulz.
* I gave the 2-shot hunting shotgun the auto-shotgun clip. Higher damage, you see.

Got any other great glitch weapon ideas!? Go ahead, try them out, and then post about them here!

.....I feel a pang of guilt, posting all this information on a board full of vitriolic... people. For what it's worth, I've only brought glitch weapons to someone else's FOB once (sorry). Seriously, this is just too much unfair power to bring to multiplayer when you can steal other peoples' resources or high-rank staff. But I worry that other people can, and have, and will continue to use this same glitch in silence to invade my FOB (or, gods help you, YOURS) and unfairly make off with my stuff. So, I'm making a public post of this, expecting the FOBs of the world to burn for a couple days, in the hopes that the powers that be fix their minor input verification glitch in a timely manner.

...Or, maybe Konami will live up to their current reputation and this will just never get fixed. After all, we still don't have any tutorials for the mouse-and-keyboard people. In a Steam game. Wow.

Prove me wrong, devs. Please.
Please?

I... This... You're excellent.

These glitched weapons will be great to use when falling through motherbase.

It's REALLY fun to SG, but in Fob sucks as hell =/. I would really love they keep it in SP, it's so fun to make weird weapons c:

A rocket shotgun. I wonder why you aren't supposed to be able to recolour launchers?

A tranq shotgun. Works super great, but alerts the whole base.

I should really figure out a way to make a decent video out of this. It'd give a better sense of how utterly broken it all is.
