Do dust effects cause FPS drops for you? GTX 970 user.
I noticed framerate would nosedive to 45fps when looking closely at dust effects in the game.

I first saw it when going in reverse with a 4-wheel. Looking at it from the front of the car, the dust cloud caused the framerate to drop noticeably. Also happens with the dust Quiet lifts when dashing - stand too close and the performance drops. It even skips a couple frames with the dust BB lifts when he dives.

I would've dismissed this as the effects simply being too much for the card to handle, but then someone told me the card SHOULD be able to, and even have performance to spare.

So I'd like to know if this happens to anyone else. I already tried reinstalling the drivers. Other games seem to run fine, but seeing how TPP has no problems the rest of the time either, I feel I may be missing something.

Drop effects to high and it will be fine.

I experienced slowdown whenever Quiet would jump around, especially the first Anglo-Zaire mission where she has that patch of water to jump through. Night-vision would sometimes cause me to dip from 60 to 45. Also a 970 user.

When I first started playing I rolled on the ground and noticed the dusk kickup dropping some frames. I turned down the effects to low I think and now I have no frame drops. Post-processing and effects are things you should first try to lower when you're getting framedrops.

I find that funny(or probably sad) having a 970 and having this issue, I do have it as well, I get a few fps drop with quiet moving around/fultoning with baloon cause of the dust effects but I have a GTX760 so yeah, besides that the game is very well optimize, all my setting are very high or high and constant 60fps

But yeah lowering effects should fix it like it been said

I usually only get slowed framerates when in Africa becuase there's so much rendered foliage everywhere, but it doesn't drop too significantly bad, just slightly stuttery every few 15 frames for split miliseconds

I didn't notice any FPS drop, if there is, it's so tiny I can't notice.
GTX 760.

Only time noticeable is with quiet dashing past right infront, when the screen fills up with dust

This. Silky smooth framerates on max graphics otherwise, including with huge clouds of smoke or explosions, but something about that Quiet dust effect makes the framerate noticeably hitch for a second. It's a minor issue, but one I wish I could still complain about. :steamsad:

For me it's only when Quiet jumping near me causing dust or water effects (drop till 30-10 FP). 980Gtx

Thanks for the fast replies! So this is a common issue then? A bummer, but I'm glad to know it's not the driver or the card's fault. Guess we'll have to live with either the frame drop or the High setting then.

tbh it might very well be an issue with the gtx970, seeing as in reality it only has 3.5gb of ram for gaming and an additional 500mb that is slower than your system ram to make up the 4gb vram, whenever a game causes the gpu to access that last 500mb of vram most games turn into a stutterfest, this is from personal experience from owning a 970, needless to say I got rid of that gpu as playing at nearly 4k in some games caused me to hit that slow ass 500mb of vram quite often.
