(Spoilers) Otacons Mother...
I find it weird how Strangelove is Otacons' mother?

In Peace Walker, Strangelove was gay, fascinated (not to say obsessed) with the Boss and openly talking about being homosexual. In fact, that's where her nickname came from. Because her colleagues thought her "love was strange"... (I know. Genius. XD)

Huey's kid was only mentioned in the ending timeline as "Huey Emerich becomes a father". No mention of who the mother is.

...of course it is entirely possible that both became close and ultimately conceived a child together, but it feels to me like it dilutes her character from Peace Walker. Strangelove was this weird, kinda scary but fascinating person, incredibly open in a time of paranoia and fear, living outside of conventions. She was kinda out of the system and out of time, making her incredible A.I. work in the 70s a bit more believable.

In TPP, she becomes a mother and lets herself be locked up to die for some reason. I don't get where Kojima wanted to go with the character in this installment.

Have you seen Huey?

Anyway, jokes aside. I guess he managed to pull the "Ima so sad" act on her or something. He is pulling that card in every scene he is in in this game.

Probably to enforce the idea of Huey being a manipulative bastard. He wanted her and probably manipulated events to get her. Then he used their son to further his own research and when she sent him away for his safety (Cipher did not take him), Huey killed her.

Kinda off topic, but the portrayal of Huey in TPP was another point I didn't like. In each and every cutscene he is in, he gets insulted, tortured or accused. He may or may not have done the things he has done.

In Peace Walker, he was the usual Emerich brand of naive, misguided, crazy scientist that got used by the system. But ultimately he meant well (by creating nuclear walking tanks).

TPP straight up paints him as a traitor and murderer, or at least expects me to believe that while never outright confirming it. Huey is a bad guy now and the guys ultimately becoming the bad guys are the good guys. Kaz and Ocelot may torture anyone at will. If Big Boss doesn't object (because he doesn't speak in this game!), it's ok.

tl;dr She used Huey for baby batter and considers Otacon a means to carry on The Boss' will. She refers to Otacon as the child of herself and The Joy (The Boss' title from MGS3).

The "Otacon" character was specifically created for nerdy geeks (you know, gamers) to identify with. Kojima said in some making-of video, he wanted a character who could fight with his intellect.

He must be aware that Otacon (and by extension Huey) is a beloved character. Why suddenly destroy this character?

Anyway, I am getting off track. Can someone explain the whole Strangelove-killing plot to me? I kinda feel I didn't get the whole picture of the why and how...

Huey left her in a pod to asphixiate because she sent Otacon away to avoid being used to test pilot Metal Gear Snuffalupagus. If you play MGS2 you should get some clue that Huey was not such a nice person when he decided to kill himself by rolling into a pool while holding his daughter.

I love you man XD

That's interesting, Huey was already mentioned in MGS2? I must have mised or forgotten that (it has been a while). That kinda changes things for me. I am not opposed to Huey being a flawed person, but so far it seemd to me like his character suddenly underwent a pointless change in TPP.

P.s.: I will always refuse to accept Paz's "true" ending at the end of Peace Walker though. XD

It isn't even a change, Otocan hated Huey. He said as such in MGS2. There is a reason for that. His dad is kind of an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Yeah, it's why Emma is afraid of water and needs Raiden to take her through the submerged portions, because she has a fear of water due to being dragged into a pool by her suicidal father.

Poor Paz.

Huey is nothing like Otacon.

He is a greedy piece of ♥♥♥♥ who only cares about his toys of mass distruction. Anything (or anyone) that interferes with his murderboner can be disposed off while he whines "WHYYY MEEEE" in self pity if he gets even a small sample of what he deserves.

Hal was extremely nerdy and socially retarded but he did what he could for other people and destroyed the system that his father spent his life fellating for research funding. So technically Strangelove got what she wanted WRT securing The Boss' legacy.

Hal says Huey once tried to commit suicide by rolling his wheelchair into a swimming pool while holding Emma, and later successfully killed himself with car exhaust after finding out his wife sexually abused Hal. Hal is the saddest dude. I want to hug him. :steamsad:

In hindsight, I guess Hueys character is kinda great. The way I am feeling sympathetic for him, and defending him even if all evidence points to him being a bad person...

(In real life, noone sees himself as being "evil" or "bad" - every action is justified in the eyes of the person. Great Bad guys in media share that trait)

I kinda expected to get this experience with Big Boss and his inevitable heel turn, to segway into MG1 - a transition we apparently aren't privy to witness, or Kojima simply couldn't figure out - for three games!

P.s.: Soooo... the million dollar question - do you think Huey knew the Nuclear Inspection of mother base was a trap, or do you think he made an honest mistake?

I did appreciate that he gave voice to some of the more meta observations about the nature of Diamond Dogs and Big Boss's whole post-CIA career ("Am I the only sane person here? You're all just a bunch of murderers!"), but since he was such a scumbag character, hearing it from him wasn't too intrusive or immersion-breaking the way it would've been if, say, Miller or Ocelot had been used to voice those thoughts. You're one of the many people who feels like we didn't see Big Boss "turn bad"...but we did, didn't we? His whole life became about running mercenary groups. Killing people for money. We don't think about it because it's just a game and it makes for fun gameplay, but almost everything he's ever done in his life has been horrible and psychopathic by normal human standards.

Towards the beginning, I believed him when he said he thought it was real, but towards the end, I started to think he knowingly sold them out because he got offered a "better deal" by Cipher to pursue his research ideas. What he later does with making the parasites mutate in the hopes of producing a valuable bargaining chip to go back to Cipher pretty much convinces me that that's the kind of guy he is.

Whatever happened to ZEKE, anyway? Is it still just sitting on the floor of the Caribbean Sea as of the end of MGS4?

To be honest, the whole concept of Militaires sans frontiers is ludicrous.

"We will fight for money, hence WORLD PEACE!"

Oh, there is a codec with Strangelove in Peace Walker, where she is complaining about Huey's milktoast-ness. She actually gave him the nickname Huey, after a worker drone from the movie Silent Running. Also, another complaint she has about him - he's a man.
