METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN
is peace walker worth playing.
i got the legacy collection with all the metal gear solid games.

i played metal gear solid 2 and 3, now i am wondering if that's enough to understand ground zeroes and metal gear solid 5.

it's not that i don't want to play peace walker but if the game's story isn't that important then i would just play that later.

the road to metal gear solid 5 is long, is it worth it? XD! :steamfacepalm:

No
it is basically MGS5 but on a smaller scale.
it´s the prologue of ground zeroes you have to play it or you wont understand ground zeroes and if you dont understand ground zeroes you wont understand tpp either

I would just watch the "movie" on youtube, Peace Walker is trash tier IMO, even the cutscenes are terrible, the comics delivery is just bad.
hmm... you must never played mgs1 nor reading the visual novel. that "comics delivery" you're talking about is actually one of the most recognizable characteristic of the mgs series.

Actually I played the series since MGS1 on PSX, but OK ! I didn't read the VN though and if it's the same style as PW then I'm not missing anything I think !
And I dunno what you mean with it being a series staple, cause it's definitely not.

I have to admit, the graphic novel style of storytelling was a little weird to me at first too. But, I accepted it as part of the PSPs limitation, and it worked well enough for that.
Peace Walker is a way better that MGS V in all aspects, except there is no baby D.D to touch his paw pads

you know in every mgs game they always have this kind of "comics delivery" art style done by the series artist yoji shinkawa in one way or the other? they used to have his art works as the games cover, but they changed to computer generated graphics as cover since mgs4. so i was quite pleased when i see theres shinkawa's "comics delivery" in mgs pw like in the original trilogy, though in reality they only used it to cover up the handheld's limitation. sadly shinkawa's art works is completely gone in mgs5, and only included it in the physical collector edditions art book.
Peacewalker is a better game than this, easily.
Unpopular opinion time:

I think that PW was overall a better game than MGSV. The story felt more cohesive (I might feel differently if MGSV wasn't missing about a third of its content) and while it was vastly simpler in some regards, the multiplayer aspect was WAY more fun (coops blows FOB away any day) and you didn't have to worry about micromanaging GMP.

Hopefully Konami allows Kojima to actually finish MGSV via DLC or an expansion, because as it stands right now it's just too incomplete. A masterpiece unquestionably, but painful to see left in its current condition.
it's definetly necessary to understand the story of MGS V and most characters, also it's a nice game
If you want Big Boss's story:
MGS3
MGS:PO
MGS:PW
MGSV:GZ
MGSV:TPP
If you want Solid Snake's story:
MG
MG2: SS
MGS
MGS2
MGS4

Peace Walker is much much better than the phantom pain.

Yes its worth it, and online coop offers a lot of fun. Japanese players are gods, they can stealth-solo missions designed for 4 players
Peace Walker is, by most acounts, the second best title in the entire franchise.

Most of the ideas in MGSV were done in Peace Walker first. It provides excellent back story on Big Boss.

The only issue is playing it on the console... I have played the HD version on 360 and the original on PSP. The HD version is obviously better -- better graphics, a second analogue stick seriously changes the way the game plays (for the better) and makes some of the more frustrating boss encounters easier. But the issue is the game was designed for a portable system. No mission in the game takes longer than 15 - 20 minutes to beat the first time through. They are also rather repetitive, and somewhat linear.

These almost feel like a plus when you only have 15 minutes to play on a lunch break or are playing on the train - but it isn't a title you can really sit down with for a couple hours and play non-stop. Anticipate this when going in. It was designed to be played 15- 30 minutes at a time, over a very long time period. If you power through it in a weekend, you're going to have a very bad time...

Also - all this talk about a multiplayer focus is just not acurate. I've S ranked the entire game alone and it isn't that difficult. Played with others in co-op, and they do make bosses more engaging... but it is just as solid a solo game as it is a co-op game.

It's flawed but i love it.
I really wanted it to be remade for consoles.
If they can do it with Kingdom Hearts, they can do it here.
Oh yeah forgot one thing , QTE sucks in peacewalker . Your triangle button wont be the same anymore :(.
I only played it for about an hour. I don't know why they had to dumb down Big Boss like that(gameplay wise). To compensate they dumbed down the enemy too making them blind as ever. Anime cutscenes makes it harder for me to fokus on the story. These 2 factors made me loose interest fast, even tho i have probably have 10k hours put into the metal gear franchise.
