Playing at 60 fps on 1440p?
Hi All,

I'm doing some graphics testing on my system. Currently I'm running I7 - 4970k overclocked at 4.6 ghz, Evga Geforce GTX 980, 16 gb of Ram with a BenQ 2720z 1080P running at 144 hz. I'm using Nvidia's DSR to scale the game to 1440p which looks great but at the same time I'm struggling to get 60 fps, the game hovers about 30-35 fps even with the auto setting and with everything on Extra High.

I would assume that I could handle 60 fps on my setup? unless I should try to knock it down to 1080p? What are your guy's thoughts on what I can try?

Scaling the game is the problem probably. Don't understand why you'd want to use 1440p on a 1080p monitor anyway

According to this article http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/guides/metal-gear-solid-v-the-phantom-pain-graphics-and-performance-guide , your GPU can handle that resolution with 60fps, HIGH settings.

1st of all you should lower "Effects" video option to High , its causing instant fps drops on Dust effects (like jumping to the ground etc). And at that article you can see what Video options causing most fps drops, and adjust the settings by testing them 1 by 1.

Hmm from reading around a bit, I'm thinking it might have to do with V-Sync being off in accordance to monitor not being a G-sync (Is a Free-Sync). I'll probably do this test when I get home. This quote below is what I got from reading a bit, hopefully that's the case.

Not sure if this applies to you, but i know if i turn of V-Sync on the game and i am running it on my 144Hz monitor, my FPS drops like a rock from a steady 60 to low 40's. So if you have a non-Gsync 60+ Hz monitor try turning on V-Sync"

I'm playing 4k 60fps max settings with no issue. Also V-Sync is turned off since it takes 10-15fps.

Try disabling V-Sync too

My 970/4690k/16GB Ram/ssd is running solid 60fps at 1800p(DSR), with effects, AO and postprocessing down to high. Those 3 settings, especially effects at extra high eat frames like crazy and have no real significant boost in visuals. I have vsync on for reference. You should be getting more out of your rig, bud.

Yeah I have a feeling it's the V-sync that's causing the framerate drop since I have it off. I'll keep everyone posted once I test it out and update.

Am running 290 @1440p 144hz Freesync @60fps
Only setting I dropped was effects this very demanding at 1440p and with that I have locked 60fps. Vsync is also off

Your 980 should handle the same.

Update****

Finally figured out what it was! After doing some testing I found out that it was my CPU that was bottlenecking the framerates because it was in some sort of power saving mode. It wouldn't recognize the game was running so would only run at 1 ghz vs the 4.6 ghz. All is well now and I can finally play the game at 60fps.

because it looks better, like a anti aliasing feature
