How to upgrade silencers?
trying to find out how to upgrade silencers or possibly add them to other weapons. so far the weapon customization does not exist. all I can do is upgrade to the next tier which may or may not have something useful. it takes so long just to get a silenced sniper with tranq. is there some weapon guy i can find who lets me upgrade stuff or make other things somehow? if so, where is he at? I have up to main mission 11 completed and on 9 right now. I have done about 16 side ops. have the zoo, quiet is in jail and tried to go on a mission with me. ddog just became active on my missions. the progress of this game seems so weird and I can't follow what makes things progress. sometimes I leave motherbase and do basically nothing, return and then stuff progresses. Other times I can do multiple missions and nothing happens. I just want to unlock better weapons because the ones you have just plain suck.

I have done nearly every mission with the basic starting tranq pistol and starting silenced rifle.

You have to upgrade your weapons. The silencers are unlocked as you get the better versions on weapons.

You need R&D People with weaponsmith specialization.

For weapon customization, finish the Legendary Gunsmith side ops

Weapon customization is unlocked after completing 3 side ops called extract the legendary gunsmith. The gunsmith levels should unlock after you complete a mission or two in the game's second map.

For the better suppressors, you need to keep researching weapons as you are. That's what unlocks more attachments and attachment points for weapons. The better suppressors are usually very high tier, chances are you will be close to the end of the game before you get a better suppressor.

In the mean time you can utilize supply drops or Quiet's gathering to replenish quite frequently.

Hey. It all unlocks VERY slowly throughout the game. You have a side op to extract 3 GunSMITHS who can UNLOCK the customization option. Then as you level up the R&D team they provide weapons with different crap on them. Via the customization menu that shows up you are then able to take said crap and mix and match. Not all combination are availible for different reasons. (I.e. no 7.62mm Heavy Barrel on a snub nose pistol frame.)

However. If you are willing to do some BASIC text editing in .LUA you can make ANYTHING you want by making your OWN guns via modding the gamedata files. Once I am done experiencing the game I plan on making a GRENADE launcher attachment for my .45 pistol that shoots sheep. Or maybe Quiet's. One of the two.

Maybe a gun that shoots Quiet's with a rifle that shoots sheep?,.... that poop grenades.... that hatch into walkers.

This really blows.. I thought there was some gunsmith you get who lets you make silencers and stuff for any type of guns or he can just upgrade a silencers strength for any gun that has one.. The silencers are so damn broken. It takes away from any realism when a silencer breaks in 8 shots. A real silencer could shoot tons of shots. At least have the basic one be able to shoot 20-30. All we are going to do is a ammo supply drop anyways, it's just pointless and time consuming to have to drop a silencer halfway into a mission. I even try to not use my gun that much b/c of how annoying it is.

You can still swap around various parts, but you still need to upgrade weapons to do so. If the gunsmith bypassed this, then weapon upgrades would be useless to do. Yo can still create neat combinations, including getting snipers with crazy high ammo counts, and even getting pistols as underbarrel attachments.

Silencers breaking is a gameplay balance thing more than anything. Having an un-breakable suppressor (which you can actually get for pistols late game) would make stealthing pretty easy.

And if we're talking realism, Silencers and Suppressors are 2 different things and require special ammunition to work to boot.

Yeah, but your just going to do a supply drop and get another silencer anyway. The amount of money you pull in just insane. I constantly have done upgrades and have so much money I don't know what to do with it. to spend just a little for another silencer to land directly on me in the middel of a mission is no big deal financially. I don't do it b/c it's annoying and frustrating waiting for a drop for a silencer.

What do you mean swap around various parts? Are you talking about something more than a pre selected weapon upgrade? Is there any customization with the weapons or is what your talking about just swapping around a part because that's what the upgrade does automatically for me? I'm wondering if there is any possible way to get actual control over the weapons and how they are? by getting a weapon smith is it going to end up allowing me to take a weapon with x attachment and remove it or add a dif one to it.

baddude1337 Sep 9, 2015 @ 5:41pm
Yes, the gunsmith allows you to swap out various parts on a weapon category. You can change the scope (including dual flip scopes), stock, muzzle, magazine, side and under barrel attachments. You can also camo it up.

You can get a sniper with an 8x zoom scope, standard ammunition (so it holds more ammo at the cost of slightly less damage and penetration) and a shotgun attached to it, if you want.

Looking at the requirements for the infinite suppressor for my tranq gun, I need to find a soldier that has the Suppressor Specialist skill.. So you need gunsmith + specialist.
The only infinite suppressors that exist to my knowledge are on the Burkov, and the Wu Tranq Gun; as they're built in, you can't use them on other guns, though I hope someone proves me wrong on this.

You don't even need the gunsmith for that since the default gun has the integrated silencer. You only need the gunsmith to swap parts between guns.

You're not wrong with that. The built-in silencers are not interchangeable parts.

Meant to say "hope someone proves me wrong that those are the only infinite durability suppressors", apologies.

I don't think you're wrong with that either, sorry. Well, D-Walker can get some infinite suppressor upgrades and I believe Quiet's rifle has one, but that's it.
