I had medium range on that one. The person suicided before I got got to them.. jumped on a mine. I do have trouble infiltrating sniper bases but it can be done.. Others prefer non lethal for defense. those gas mortors are a real pain. But its the soldiers who do different things depending on alerts. Snipers try to get high ground.. medium will find cover until they find you.
short range they have to get close. although those shot guns seem to shoot pretty far. But really if the person is good you will not get an alert.
Aslo the higher your rating the more likely you will get invaded. if thast what your looking for.. lower level bases do not get invaded much rewards are to small and not worth it. If I can not get atleast S+ or S++ I don't bother.
But long range also means there's fewer guys on the ground, and by throwing magazines good invaders are going to easily distract the snipers' vision. Mid range solves this by having guys walking around on the ground floor.
Mid range is better at setting up supressing fire; if the invader gets spotted he's more likely to get pinned down which stalls him. The other advantage of mid range is the sheer volume of fire; there's been situations when I've been spotted and pretty much instantly died because 5 guys had LoS on me and turned me into swiss cheese before I could get out of the way.
I've yet to actually attack anyone. Seems like a huge pain in the ass with a steep learning curve (trying to deal with all of the extra security measures)
Any weapons or items in your development trees that have green names can be used by security team members to defend your FOBs. And if the first item in the tree is green and the rest aren't, that item will still receive any upgrades you develop for it and increase your defense level, such as the claymore mines or decoys.
Don't base your defenses strictly on what gives you the highest level defense. Some platforms favor certain types of weapons, like using long range on your Base Development platforms because of the large, open areas it has, or close range on your Support platform because it has a lot of enclosed spaces.
Take a run around your different platform types and get an idea of what weapons you think would work best there, then set up zones to focus your defense on as well, which can be done through your advanced security settings in the security menu.
