Why free roam?
Just curious. I dont have a great deal of time spent in the game. Only about 4% done according to the game. That being said. What can/should you do in free roam? Seems like the action is in the missions, unless I'm missing something. Can I attack outposts? What happens when I take over all the outposts? Is there anything left in free roam? Do they respawn? Does the map get any bigger or do sections open up? Seems kind of small just looking at the map 4% into the game from the idroid. Just a few questions trying to get used to this game.

What else can you do other than just attack little outposts?

Pick plants, get resources, get recruits.

Free roaming should only be used for if you want to gather materials and soldiers, find some hidden tapes at certain outposts, and of course, complete some side-ops.

So it shouldnt be used to just get into gun fights and have fun shooting people at outposts? Will that ruin story missions later or something?

basically mess around until u feel like doing a missions or waiting for something to develop

the 30m-2h wait time for some items is like, wtf... but i think they put in free roam and side ops as a way to keep u busy while waiting for something u need to be developed

You do side-ops in free roam.

Side ops my boi. That's what most of my time has been.

when i first got this game i was only up to missions 3 and i spent 14 hours doing free roam and side ops. i was leveling up my fob and dev items in advance i was able to do certain difficult missions easily than someone who would progress at a normal rate (IE back up back down)

A few things I can think of, apologize if this sounds like a spoiler.

You gain heroism points by capturing enemy outposts, though high heroism points may affect the quality of volunteers soldiers you are getting, and there's some achievement for it. When it is high enough you can invade all fobs which include player with nuclear deterrent.

You can collect materials to develope your base or weapons later in the game.

You can fulton soldiers on the field and recruit them to join your force.

Save animals, some point in the game you get to built an animal platform.

Fulton vehicles or weapon emplacement, you can sell them for some gmp, or use it later in fob.

Collect flowers which is needed to develope some weapons or items.

Doing side-ops to earn gmp.

Technically Side OPs are in free roam. You can do them just by walking into the designated area for them, no need for a sortie.

You're going to need to farm a lot of resources with cheeky exploits in free roam m8

There is an option that says "free roam".
Also, good for you. I heard there are little to none cheaters on console.

That option is the exact same as entering Free Roam through the Side OP page. There is no difference.
