don't get spotted and you can do whatever you like, destroy everything without getting spotted and you'll be fine

Do damage > x and get spotted. I don't know how much x is but I'm sure it's more than 1000 GMP, so destroying a camera should be fine.

You don't actually need to do any damage. IME it works like this:

You have to start an alarm, but from there the chance of a wormhole goes up the more damage you do. You don't need to do any damage at all for a hole to open up, and sometimes you can get away with doing quite a lot. More damage means higher chance, but nothing is guaranteed either way.

The game doesn't explain this, but if you invade people with high espionage rank (say 200 or better, I'm not sure if there's a limit or if the chance of retaliation is gradually increasing based on rank) there's a much, much higher chance of a wormhole opening up. If I get spotted on the spawning deck I always (at least 90% of the time, but it may actually be 100%) open up wormholes if the owner is high ranked. Meanwhile if I invade someone ranked say 5000 I have to destroy their FOB for a wormhole to open. It NEVER happens if I do no or moderate damage. I have to steal most of the containers or there won't be a wormhole.

wont really matter to me anymore. i only go for security challenges now. because no revenge.

I asked this on here a week ago. The answer I got, and my experience shows:

Cause a COMBAT ALERT- meaning they see YOU and are shooting at YOU (not area fire, which happens occasionally). I have gotten as close as reflex ends (multiple AI guys at once) and the guy yells "Conta..." POP, I shoot him in the face. No combat alert. No revenge wormhole. IMO, once he fires that first shot, you are identified, and if you have killed/ destroyed/ fultoned, you get a revenge wormhole. It has been posed on this forum that given the ESC tip wording that you must be SPOTTED doing those things, meaning initiating or during a combat alert.

I have successfully infiltrated several cheaters and a revenge wormhole opened on one of my FOBs. I will NEVER invade a legit player that hasn't attacked me first. Ever. You should try this out on S++ and 1 million PF cheaters. :)

Hope this helps,
Wolf

I have people invade me get deteced steal my stuff and fulton staff and I can't retaliate so I'm getting the opposite. Getting close to wipping my save and uninstalling.

If you espionage points go up, you start showing on the FOB invader lists, and you get invaded. Period. As of one or two events ago, those event EPs started applying to online espionage points. (Previously, if you looked at yourself on the train/ visit screen it would show at the bottom, but you still had 0 points for your list points. I think during the last event they aligned.) NOTE: you can do Skulls Attack (current as of this post) WITHOUT gaining EPs. So, your chances of getting invaded does not go up. I guess because you never reach the core you don't get any points???

JRCOBRA-

If they don't cause a combat alert (etc.), you will only see their greyed out name.

Just to add, if you invade someone with Security Challenge on and your internet craps itself they get a revenge wormhole too....

^^^ Yes, very good point. Steam sucking = the same as you failing the worst possible way, with no chance of getting stuff and apparently a 100% chance of a retaliatory wormhole.

Can someone explain the security challenge to me? I'm scared of it. :)

both attacker and defender get increased rewards. but defender does NOT get revenge wormhole.
defenders will ALWAYS know immediately when someone is attacking them.
if im right tho. S+ or higher ranks can never appear on the FOB. (you can steal em at the core)

I'm still confused on this. I managed to get to the core while maybe destroying around 3-4 UAVs, but I never triggered reflex mode, let alone an alert. Is it those UAV destruction that's causing a retaliation wormhole to open?
