METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

One of my favorite things about this game
Is that it explains the origin of the Cobra Unit's abilities.

And I thought it was interesting that Code Talker used the parasites in The End to study and design new vocal cord parasites and even put them in his own body gaining the same abilities as The End.

It is funny how though instead of nanomachines, Kojima just used parasites to explain crap this time.

I think that's one of the things that didn't really need explanations. Especially not "parasites" that are just nanomachines. But I guess it fits the writing of the series, where everything needs to be explained by parasites/nanomachines. Kojima even felt like he needed to explain evolution lmao

My favorite thing about this game is the enemy chopper.
A single burst from its machinegun can cut a man in half.

I didn't really need one I guess but I did want one.

The Cobra Unit is less silly to me now and I like that.

You chopper peasant. SNOIPAH MASTER RACE!
Stay low and crawl along the ground, that should enable you to sneak past SNOIPAHS!

To be honest, this game almost feels like more lore revelation than actual plot. Which, to me, makes sense since this is a chapter set dead center of the more eventful Metal Gear stories. So it seems like this one explains some remaining plot holes (which after MGS4 are relatively few) and adds some twists to what we thought we knew about Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2. All in all this story actually does MORE explaining than I really expected to.

It was a cool plot device. I think some people may be turned off bc on the surface it is close to what George Lucas did w Midichlorians -- explaining a previously supernatural thing through rote biology. But it makes sense with the new storytelling of not Big Boss: The Soap Opera but actually being on the frontlines of these wars and conflicts.

Metal Gear has always had a ton to say about WMD's, often with the titular machine at the center of discussion. Biological weapons have thankfully never been used (deterrence, perhaps?) but they are certainly the future of war (along with a focus on intel and special operations) and it is good that Kojima was able to touch on that in his last installment.
