METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

Why are so many people offended by Quiet?
It's just some bare skin.

Because people are desperate to be offended about anything and everything these days. Basically....the same reason for any of humanities problem. Ignorance and stupidity.

The main problem is not what she is wearing, so much as the paper thin reason for it. If you've listened to the audio tapes for Code Talker's research and side stuff, you would know he has the same parasite covered skin Quite does. You never see him dancing in the rain, in a shower scene, or wearing anything other then his shirt and vest combo.

Well I take it that it is her character's choice to do these things, to dress that way and to not speak. Just as it is Code Talker's choice to do what he does, talking about hamburgers w Kaz, experimenting w the parasites to save his people, etc.

Code Talker's lungs did not get burned in a fire, hers did. Code Talker is over 100 years old scientist, she is a 20-something female secret agent/super sniper. You also don't see Code Talker using super speed or stealth invisibility. This is because it is against his character's nature. The way these characters live their lives tell us something about them, their struggles, their motivations, etc. So "paper thin" if you don't care to learn anything about the characters.

American prudism. We Americans are soooooo prudish.
Heck, most other nations allow boobs on regular tv.

But the PC police here in the US freak out.

Personally, the only issue I have with Quiet, is that it makes me look pervy playing MGSV with my wife in the room.

Violance and Porn Industry is the biggest things that US spews out, but hell a nipple on TV or anyone mentions sexy or sexualized content for a video game for 18+ audience... he must prepare for shet storm.

just another first world problem. Interestingly enough, did you know developing/third world countries do not have Anorexic people? This "disorder" is only found in well-developed countries and those with barely any food to feed themselves don't have anorexia or bulimia. Same thing with sexists and feminists, simply creating a problem where there is none.

I'm american and yes we are some of the biggest hypcrites as a whole(i'm mainly talking about the loudmouths to love to preach as a whole) We are prude but are easily marketed to with sex. We love that stuff secretly but shun it in public cuz just hypocrites. Hell look, the PORN industry is MASSIVE in the U.S. Sex/nudity in video games is totally unacceptable while i can bifurcate a man in two and stab my hand through his chest and pull out their heart. It's pretty annoying when I think of my own country and how we love to pretend we're on some moral high ground when we're not.

I'm not a patriot...oh whee.... kill me...cuz I don't see much too be proud of my country apart from our founding fathers and other great men who's time has already passed

Are people even complaining about that? I thought Kojima shut most of them when he told them to play the game and find the "reason" or they'll be ashamed of their words and deeds. And obviously most of those people didn't play the game and are afraid to complain to not look bad.

Also we are talking about a game that opens up with you following a guy whose ass is visible the entire prologue. Big Boss? More like Big Ass. The Phantom Buttcrack.

There's only 1 reason that bothered me about her, the fact that Kojima publically stated that her character was not meant to be sexualized, and that any references to sex from her character are explanable me story elements. That's the biggest copout answer ever. It's like when a girl dresses as a slutty "insert profession here" on halloween and denies she's doing it to make herself feel sexually empowered.

It's not creating a sexual vibe that's wrong, it's being disengenuous about why that I have the problem with (granted my anaolgy would have the obvious moral exception of a women wanting to be tactful in rejecting unwanted attention, but I can't think of anything better to describe feeling frustrated at miscommunicating sexual intention).

Or to put it another way, MGS games have always objectified the female body in one way or another and there's nothing wrong with that to a fictional character that literally has no actual feeling in reality. MGSV objectified the female body and Kojima is in the wrong for denying it was doing so because it's pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ obvous it is.

Yeah. Also, I just don't see what is so offensive about the body of an attractive female. Some of these journalists blow this thing out of proportion. Probably for views, idk.
Same as journalist/internet ppl saying videos games make kids violent and killers and nazi etc etc just to get that bright light of a spotlight for just a second

Adam, Ocelot makes it clear she has two reasons for not wearing clothing, breathing- as you stated, and for asorbing light, something that Code Talker also does, but Code Talker is not uncovered enough to justify her. Special operations soldiers are always outfitted with the best gear possible. XOF could easily have created a uniform that would not inhibit Quite's breathing. I find it hard to believe that the soldier that was sent to kill Big Boss would chose to not be kitted the ♥♥♥♥ out. This is where you and I differ on this. It makes sense to you , but I don't find it believable. To each their own. If you like it, by all means keep doing so. To me it looks and feels like fanservice and I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate fanservice.
Hazy_Maze_Cave Oct 16, 2015 @ 10:57am
See to me the entire series dabbles in fanservice, and famously plays w those expectations. The first 2 women you meet in MGS are practically drooling over "being hit on by the famous Solid Snake". Fan service is in its blood.

Too true.

America, home of the paradoxes: Violent movies, GOOD. Violent games, BAD. Bikini clad women used in advertising to sell everything, GOOD. Bikini clad women any where else, BAD.

Sometimes, I don't wanna live here anymore.

Kojima literally NEVER said she wasn't supposed to be sexy. He said he used the wrong term when he described her as 'erotic' and said that he should have used the term sexy. She was always meant to be sexy. And there is nothing wrong with that really.

These people never go to the beach... for fear of people staring and casting judgement on them...... for different reasons..
